At Northumberland County Council, we’re committed to delivering a high-quality service to vulnerable adults and their loved ones across the County - and we’re looking for professionals who share our vision.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Social Worker with post qualification experience, or social workers who have successfully completed the ASYE Programme to join our Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) and wider Adult Safeguarding Team which includes organisational safeguarding.

This is your chance to join a forward-thinking organisation that values collaboration and is committed to delivering high-quality support and better outcomes for the people we work with.

We currently have the following opportunity available:

  • Permanent position
  • Full-time (37 hours per week)
  • Based at County Hall, Morpeth, with the opportunity for hybrid working. Due to the nature of the role you will be expected to work in the office for a minimum of 3 days.
  • Salary starts at £39,862 rising to £44,075 (dependant on experience)

About the role

At Northumberland County Council, we take pride in our dedicated employees who are passionate about improving the lives of adults in our communities, ensuring they feel safe, healthy, happy, and independent.

What makes the role unique?

As a Social Worker within the team working with Safeguarding Managers and Team Managers, you will work closely with our partner agencies to ensure the safeguarding of adults at risk in Northumberland working closely with Northumbria Police, Children’s Services, Health, CNTW and a number of other partner agencies.

What we are looking for:

  • Enthusiastic, qualified Social Workers with a commitment to continuous development

The role of the job:

  • To carry out triage of new safeguarding referrals within a 24 hour timescale
  • To assess and analyse risk and strengths along with implementing safety planning
  • Liaise with clients via telephone and conduct home visits
  • Work within a multi-agency safeguarding hub alongside key partners (e.g. Police, Health, Housing)
  • Access support via the Safeguarding Managers/Team Manager where appropriate
  • Undertake or support Section 42 enquiries where required
  • Work with adults and their networks to develop person-centred safeguarding plans
  • Ensure practice aligns with Making Safeguarding Personal
  • Maintain accurate, high-quality recording and documentation
  • Complete brief assessments of work completed
  • Conduct unannounced visits to organisations where safeguarding concerns have been raised
  • Identify immediate risk of harm and raise this with your line manager
  • Meet tight timescales within Triage and MASH
  • Support with organisational safeguarding

If you bring these skills and values, we invite you to join a progressive and innovative organisation that truly values its employees.

Additional benefits of working for Northumberland include the support of our dedicated Adult Social Care training team, who provide a wide range of career development opportunities to help you grow and progress in your role. From specialist workshops to structured pathways, we are committed to investing in your professional development including the option to undertake specialist accredited training such as the Approved Mental Health Professional and Practice Educators qualifications.
