Job Introduction


Are you looking for a part-time job that gives you the chance to serve your local community? If so, we might have the ideal opportunity for you.

Our School Crossing Patrol Service operates to assist school children and pedestrians on their journey to and from school.

We have vacancies for Mobile School Crossing Patrols, to provide cover for absence, throughout the County and would be pleased to hear from you if you may be interested in doing this essential work.

The duties are term time only and are therefore ideally suited to anyone who prefers to take school holidays.

You will receive full training and uniform, and payment throughout the year.

You will be also required to attend a Health Assessment conducted by Staffordshire County Councils’ Occupational Health Department.

Main Responsibilities

We currently have vacancies for School Crossing Patrols Mobile Relief Patrols in the following areas:

  • Newcastle/Leek/Moorlands (POSN001456) (POSN005679)

School Crossing Patrols operate twice daily during term-time.

As a Mobile Relief you will be required to travel to various locations around often at short notice to cover absences so you will need to be available to take telephone calls from 7.00 am and again in the middle of the day and to respond as necessary.

  • You will have no set hours
  • the hours you will be required to work will vary but duty times usually fall between the hours of:
  • 7:30am - 9am and 2:30pm - 4pm
  • each duty can last from 30mins up to 1 hours in length, but each crossing location is unique and has its own specific operating times (some locations may fall outside of these times, please check with the School Crossing Patrol team for individual crossing information).
  • Due to the nature of this role you will also be paid mileage and travel time each time you are required to work.

This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and will require a pre-employment health assessment as part of the onboarding process.

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for someone who has:

  • Full driving licence with suitable business insurance*
  • Good road sense and knowledge of the Highway Code*
  • Experience of working with children
  • Drive, enthusiasm and flexibility
  • Ability to display sound judgment and act on own initiative
  • Ability to follow processes and procedures
  • Basic computer skills an advantage
  • Effective communication skills*
  • Punctuality*
  • Reliability*
  • Willingness to work in all weather conditions*
  • Ability to route plan sometimes at short notice
  • Confident

* denotes the essential criteria that you need to meet.

A vehicle and full driving licence is essential for mobile patrols, as you will be required to travel various crossing points as needed.
