About the team

St Michael’s House is a short break service for adults with various disabilities. They come to St Michael’s for a break, to give their main carers a break, or when there’s been a breakdown in support. Therefore, you will need to work in partnership with a range of professionals; – social workers, including hospital social workers, GPs, health support services such as physios, speech and language, district nurses etc, as well as with the people we support and their families. You will need to be an excellent communicator, with good interpersonal skills.

No two days are the same here, so you must be able to problem solve and multitask in a fast-paced environment.

You will also lead the team to ensure compliance with local and national quality standards and ensure that this is recorded and evidenced.

About the role

As a team leader, you will oversee the work of the whole team and ensure they deliver high quality support to people using our service, working in partnership with other professionals and agencies. You will also be required to work direct support shifts as part of the induction process and if needed from time to which will enable you to both observe practice, and coach and mentor the team. You will be required to formally supervise staff, administer medication, assist with compiling the rota, support with training and sickness management, and take on a key role, such as health and safety co-ordinator, or medication co-ordinator.

You will be required to work flexibly within our service. This role does not require you to work Bank holidays or weekends. However, if you do work a weekend day you get a day off in lieu during the week.

You will also be required to complete waking night checks a couple of times during the year.

You will be expected to promote good practice and consistently high standards of support, by providing formal supervision in line with the policies and procedures of the organisation, to nominated junior staff.

Participate in improving the quality of the service experienced by the people we support, through developing robust support plans which are implemented and then reviewed regularly, completing audit processes aiming to continually improve the service experience of the people we support.

About you

Essential:

  • An NVQ, QCF or RQF Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in care is essential to this role, and you will be encouraged and supported to undertake an RQF Level 4 qualification.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal are essential to this role, as you will be required to liaise with social workers and families and other professionals involved with the people using our service.
  • Previous experience of working with people with disabilities, and knowledge of safeguarding and CQC standards are essential.
  • The ability to reflect on your own experiences and practice to build professional relationships with people we support, family carers and other agencies, in order to understand the needs and rights of disabled adults.
  • To always be aware of risks and how they can be minimised ensuring the health and safety of colleagues and the people you support.

Desirable

  • Experience in conflict resolution, working within budgets set and having to make decisions under pressure.
  • Ability to drive.
