About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Wokingham Borough Council as a Communication & Digital Engagement Apprentice, helping shape how we connect with residents through digital channels.

Working within the Housing Partnerships and Engagement Team, you’ll support the delivery of creative, engaging and accessible digital content that helps residents understand services, get involved, and have their voices heard.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll learn everything from social media management and content creation to digital campaigns and community engagement all while working towards a recognised qualification.

About the Team

The Housing Partnerships and Engagement service leads on resident engagement, regeneration, and partnership working across housing.

We work closely with residents, colleagues and partners to ensure communities are informed, involved and empowered, with a strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI). Our work is guided by the Transparency, Influence and Accountability Standard, ensuring residents can shape services and hold us to account, and by the Housing Ombudsman’s Complaints Handling Code, using feedback to continuously improve. Digital engagement is key to making this accessible and inclusive for all.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Update and maintain webpages to ensure content is accurate, user-friendly and reflective of resident feedback.
  • Support the creation and delivery of digital communications, including social media, website content and campaigns.
  • Help manage and grow our social media channels, creating engaging posts and reviewing performance.
  • Assist in developing innovative digital engagement opportunities to increase resident participation.
  • Work with residents and colleagues to co-create content that is clear, inclusive and accessible.
  • Support engagement activities and events, both online and in person, including capturing content (photos/videos).
  • Turn complex information into simple, engaging digital formats (e.g. posts, videos, infographics).
  • Help monitor engagement and suggest ways to improve digital reach and impact.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team while developing your own skills and confidence

Additional Information

  • You may be required to travel across the Borough
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support events or engagement activities

  • Customer-focused approach and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to completing a Level 3 apprenticeship.

Desirable:

  • Experience creating content for social media or digital platforms
  • Basic knowledge of design or editing tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe)
  • Experience updating websites or working in a customer-focused environment.
  • Interest in community engagement or public services

Why Join Us?
