We are London’s largest borough, made up of areas with distinct urban and suburban character, and large areas of Green Belt and open countryside. Our historic environment is a key asset, including 47 conservation areas and over 400 listed buildings. Bromley also plays an important role in the regional economy, particularly the strategic industrial land in the Cray Valley; and Bromley Town Centre, the borough’s most significant retail and leisure location.

About the Role

• Migration of our IT system to a more efficient and customer friendly system with further improvements to streamline the application process

• Development of trainee Class 1 Registered Building Inspectors

The focus of the work of the Senior Building Control Surveyor is dealing with a day-to-day management of an area for plan checking and carrying out site inspections. This will involve working with other Council services to deliver improvements to our existing buildings such as leisure centres, libraries and housing projects.

The ideal candidate will be Class 2F registered and working towards Class 3. You will have experience in building control project management for residential and commercial developments as well as experienced in dealing with dangerous structures. Good problem-solving skills and being able to use excellent communication skills to explain technical terms and regulations clearly to members of the public and other professionals are essential skills required for this role.

You will provide supervision to the Class 1 RBI’s at plan checking and site inspection stages

The London Borough of Bromley is geographically the largest London borough and with this comes a wide range of developments for our Building Control Team. This will provide you with a varied workload in terms of challenge and expectation from customers however the role is incredibly rewarding.

The successful candidate will be joining a values-based organisation and be supported with their Continuing Professional Development. Your registration, renewal and surveillance costs for the Building Safety Regulator will be fully supported.
