As part of the Council's commitment to providing high-quality and efficient services, we are looking to recruit someone who is keen to learn and develop their business administration skills and knowledge within the field of health and safety.

This role will support all Council services, with the aim of helping to minimise the Council’s exposure to health and safety risks.

As a Business Administrator Apprentice, you will:

  • Provide support to the Chief Executive Office in the provision of an effective and efficient Health & Safety service for the London Borough of Hillingdon.
  • Assist the Council’s Health & Safety Manager and Advisors in providing high-quality, competent advice on all aspects of health and safety relating to Council employees and others who may be affected by Council activities.
  • Support the team by acting as a liaison between the Council’s various departments, services, employees and the Health & Safety team.
  • Support the delivery of the Council’s health surveillance programme for staff.
  • Support the development and delivery of first aid training and the wider Health & Safety training programme.
  • Assist in producing statistical information and analysis for regular reports to senior management.

About You

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who would like to build a career, gain experience of working within a large corporate organisation and develop their knowledge within the field of health and safety.

The successful applicant will have:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to engage effectively with staff and managers.
  • A highly motivated and outcome-focused approach.
  • Strong team-working skills.
  • Good IT skills.
  • The ability to learn and develop within a professional working environment.

Experience of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint would be beneficial.

Full training, professional development and study support will be provided to the successful candidate.

Why Join Us?

This apprenticeship offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable workplace experience while developing practical business administration skills within a specialist Health & Safety environment.

You will work alongside experienced professionals, support services across the Council and build knowledge and skills that can support your future career development.

If you are motivated, keen to learn and interested in developing a career within business administration and health and safety, we would love to hear from you.

Additional Information

If you would like to have an informal discussion about the post, please email James Wright, Health & Safety Manager, at jwright1@hillingdon.gov.uk.

Recruitment Information
Hillingdon Council operates a guaranteed interview scheme for candidates with disabilities that meet the essential criteria for the role and wish to be considered under this scheme. We believe in the option to choose, so candidates declaring a disability have the choice to opt in for consideration under this scheme, on a ‘per application’ basis.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable groups and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Some posts are subject to The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2019 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

In addition to verifying Right to Work in the UK and a new starter health questionnaire, the post is subject to the following pre-employment screening:
