About Us:

THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF GIRO’S PERSUASIVE POWERS

The Learning Disabilities Team in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. We love it when our work touches lives.

Take Stepping to the Beat, the Council’s 3k walk, jog or run for people with learning or physical disabilities or Autism, their families and carers. It’s a life-affirming, music-based event Coreen and Claudia are massively proud of - and they were keen for people to spread the word. So, imagine how thrilled they were when one of our residents, Giro, did just that. Advocating for people with disabilities at a planning meeting for transport in London, he was proudly wearing his event medal. And he decided to use it to encourage others. As he passed it around the room, Giro inspired lots more people with disabilities to get involved. Infectious enthusiasm goes a long way here.

The Role:

As Case Manager you can make your own powerful contribution to the lives of people with learning disabilities. Making a big difference for service users with complex needs, and for their families, you’ll be an enthusiastic champion of independence, dignity, choice, self-esteem and wellbeing.

As a member of a specialist multidisciplinary team, you’ll work closely with fellow case managers and social workers, under the guidance of managers with specialist experience in learning disabilities. You will relish the fulfilling challenge of working closely with those in complex circumstances and dealing smartly with budgets to deliver the best possible support.

Whether individuals live in the community independently, with family carers or in supported accommodation, you will take their unique strengths and levels of risk into account when carrying out assessments. We will look to you to take on the role of lead enquiry officer as part of the safeguarding process. You’ll produce person-centred support plans and enable people and their carers to make informed choices about care services.

In return for your commitment you’ll enjoy excellent opportunities for learning and career development.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information.

About You:

To join us you’ll need a recognised social work, qualification, plus membership of a professional register. With experience of working in a local authority or health setting, you demonstrate knowledge of relevant legislation and a commitment to the principles of personalisation, independence and choice. Ideally, you will have experience of working with people who have learning disabilities. You will certainly be used to working in a social services duty system as part of a multi-disciplinary team. An understanding of budgets and financial controls is also essential.

Your skills will enable you to start making a difference on day one - from carrying out accurate and timely assessments and promoting self-directed care, through to negotiating with other agencies and keeping comprehensive case records. Your ability to communicate, in person and in writing, with service users, cares and colleagues, really sets you apart.

Westminster City Council is committed to supporting Care Leavers into the workplace. Care Leavers seeking their first job and who wish to be considered under our scheme, will automatically be invited to interview should they meet the essential criteria for the role.
