ABOUT THE JOB

The post holder is responsible for providing effective support for the SEND Tribunals, Mediations and Resolutions Team.

The post holder will be the first point of contact for the resolutions service, so will interact with appellants, families, schools and relevant officers. There will be a lot of stakeholder management involved and a helpful, patient attitude to work will be important to success in post.

An acute attention to detail and efficacy when compiling information will be a key part of the role, as the post holder will be responsible for securing, coordinating and submitting information (such as evidence documents and witness statements) on behalf of the local authority.

ABOUT YOU

We want to hear from candidates who are empathetic to the challenges faced by children and families affected by SEND, committed to tackling disproportionality wherever they find it, and keen to join us as we strive to build a Fairer Newham.

Candidates will need to meet the following (minimum) criteria in their application to be shortlisted:

  • Knowledge and experience of the work of a local authority SEND service, and the impact SEND has on children and families.

  • Strong administrative skills, proven by a work history in local authority administration and experience working to deadlines.

  • Good knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and the statutory processes.

  • Experience of working with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Experience of interacting with service users in a polite and courteous way.

  • Experience using Adobe and Excel (basic) and working with databases.

About us

The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. It has a thriving arts quarter with the Theatre Royal Stratford East offering excellent entertainment for all the family. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock. It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.
