Job Introduction

We’re recruiting Educational Psychologists to join our dedicated Educational Psychology Service.

At Milton Keynes City Council, we use psychology to help children and young people achieve positive outcomes and thrive in their communities. Our Educational Psychology Service is highly valued across the city and is committed to early intervention, inclusion, consultation, training and building the capacity of others through evidence-informed practice.

We’re looking for creative and motivated Educational Psychologists to join our friendly and supportive team. You’ll be part of a service that values different psychological approaches, professional interests and collaborative working.

We offer a broad and varied range of work, supported by a clear workload allocation system that helps colleagues maintain a healthy work-life balance while making a real difference to children, young people and families across Milton Keynes.

This role may be suitable for home working, following an assessment. Home‑based roles require a minimum of one day per week working from the office or site

Rather than holding interviews on a specific date, we will assess applications on an ongoing basis and invite suitable candidates to interview as they apply. The vacancy will remain open until the position is filled, so early applications are encouraged.

At Milton Keynes City Council, we aim to make a difference every day. We’re dedicated, respectful and collaborative. We act as one council, and we work hard to create cleaner, safer and healthier communities while tackling inequalities and supporting people to thrive.

Role Responsibilities
  • Provide consultation, assessment and intervention work to support children and young people across Milton Keynes.
  • Contribute high-quality psychological advice as part of the Educational, Health and Care Needs Assessment process.
  • Deliver training and professional development to schools, settings and partner agencies.
  • Work collaboratively with families, schools and professionals to promote inclusion and positive outcomes.
  • Contribute to service projects, strategic developments and preventative approaches.
  • Support the development of guidance, resources and evidence-informed practice across the local area.
Ideal Candidate
  • A qualified Educational Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (or eligible for registration following completion of a recognised doctoral training programme).
  • Experience of applying psychology creatively to improve outcomes for children and young people.
  • Strong consultation, assessment and intervention skills across a range of settings.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with families and professionals.
  • A commitment to inclusive, child-centred and family-centred practice.
  • Dedicated to continuous professional development and evidence-informed approaches.

As part of the pre-employment checks, should you be offered the role, we’ll carry out an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, (unless you are currently registered with the DBS Update Service).

About The Organisation

Milton Keynes City Council is a large, modern and financially stable employer with around 2,500 people working across our eight areas. Together we provide local residents and businesses with a wide range of important round-the-clock services and aim to make our city a better place to live.

We work hard because of the demands placed on us, like protecting children from harm or preventing homelessness. However, working for the city is always rewarding and everyone has the opportunity to make a real difference.

We’re very proud of our diversity and are committed to having a workforce that reflects the community we serve. Whatever your background, you will be welcome here if you share our values of being dedicated, respectful and collaborative.

We offer great training and support and because of the size and scale of the organisation there are always new opportunities to explore when it’s time for a new role.
