REGIONAL ESTATES MANAGER

Job Description

Holiday Entitlement – 32 days plus statutory bank holidays

School based, with central office visits and home working supported.

The schools this role will be overseeing are: The Raise Academy, Widnes; The Fermain Academy, Macclesfield; Cornerstone Academy, Crewe/Sandbach; The Axis Academy, Crewe.

37 hours per week – to be worked flexibly to meet the needs of the schools, over 5 days

Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Regional Estates Manager to provide effective leadership, development and management of estates functions across schools within the Cheshire region of our Trust (4 SEN/AP schools currently).

The postholder will ensure that Trust sites are safe, compliant, well maintained and effectively supported through the delivery of high-quality operational services.

Working closely with the Director of Business, the Regional Estates Manager will support the implementation of the Trust’s estates strategy while maintaining a strong focus on operational delivery, compliance assurance and continuous service improvement. You will co-line manage school estates staff, and ensure resources are deployed to have the biggest impact.

There is scope for the role to grow with further Trust expansion, or re-organisation.

Operational Leadership

  • Provide operational leadership across the Trust’s estates and facilities functions.
  • Lead, manage and support site staff across schools in the Cheshire region, currently covering Widnes, Macclesfield and Crewe.
  • Develop and maintain consistent operational standards across the estate.
  • Ensure schools receive effective and responsive estates support.
  • Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for operational estates matters.

Compliance and Assurance

  • Maintain oversight and carry out statutory estate’s compliance activities, completing activities where appropriate and managing suitably delegated tasks.
  • Ensure compliance inspections, servicing and remedial actions are completed within required timescales.
  • Monitor Trust-wide compliance performance through Every Compliance and associated systems.
  • Ensure compliance records and evidence are maintained appropriately with support from school caretakers and estates assistants.
  • Support the Director of Business in managing operational risk relating to estates and facilities.
  • Undertake compliance audits and site reviews as required.
  • Ensure schools are inspection-ready and compliant with statutory requirements.

Estates and Facilities Management

  • Work with senior leaders to oversee asset management plans and capital improvement plans for schools in the region.
  • Support effective implementation of the Trust’s Estates Vision and Plan.
  • Oversee planned preventative maintenance programmes across the schools in the region.
  • Monitor reactive maintenance performance and ensure timely resolution of issues.
  • Manage contractor performance and service delivery.
  • Support procurement and lead contract management activities relating to estates.
  • Ensure value for money is achieved across estates-related expenditure.
  • Coordinate operational responses to emergencies and significant estates incidents.

Project and Capital Support

  • Lead the delivery of region-wide estates improvement projects.
  • Support schools in the drafting and updating of their strategic capital plans ensuring Trust and school priorities are considered
  • Support the planning and implementation of capital projects.
  • Liaise with external consultants, contractors and professional advisers.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, effectively and within agreed timescales.

General Responsibilities

  • Promote and uphold the Trust’s values, ethos and commitment to students, staff and communities.
  • Comply with policies and procedures relating to safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality, data protection and GDPR, reporting concerns to an appropriate person.
  • Support equality of opportunity and ensure students and staff can access opportunities to learn and develop.
  • Participate in training, professional development and other learning activities as required.
  • Use personal strengths and areas of expertise to advise and support colleagues.
  • Play an appropriate part in safeguarding procedures, including recording and reporting factual information and disclosures to the designated safeguarding lead or relevant professional.
  • Travel to schools within The YES Trust as required, with an expectation that three to four days per week will normally be based in schools supporting estates management and caretaking staff.
  • Attend and participate in meetings outside normal working hours where required.
  • Undertake other duties commensurate with the grade and responsibilities of the post.

The postholder may be required to carry out any other duties that are commensurate with the post. Whilst every effort is made to explain the main duties and responsibilities of the post, each individual task undertaken may not be identified.

This job description is subject to review by the line manager in negotiation with the post holder at any time. However, an annual review of this job description and allocation of responsibilities will take place as part of agreed performance management arrangements.

Additional Information

This is a full-time, full-year role supporting schools across the Cheshire region and, where required, the wider YES Trust estate.

Working Pattern and Holidays

The postholder will be expected to work flexibly across the year to meet the operational needs of schools. Annual leave can usually be taken at any point in the year, provided this does not affect the effective running of the schools.

Working hours during school holiday periods may be flexible, subject to prior agreement and operational requirements.

Salary range

  • £43,386 - £49,619 per year
