• Support or lead for the Team on a policy area(s), developing your knowledge of the policy, building relationships with the relevant policy team, developing a network with other Place Engagement Leads and Place Engagement Advisors to understand the implications and impacts in places and feeding that back to policy teams to shape development and delivery.

• Draft high quality local intelligence about the impact of Government policies on place and use your relationships and influence with partners across central and local Government to shape local outcomes.

• Work closely with other MHCLG officials to support the delivery of key priorities such as local government reform, devolution and the development of future Foundation Strategic Authorities

• Support and lead Ministerial briefings on regional risks and opportunities and ensure a high-quality service on parliamentary business and ministerial visits.

• Make a positive contribution to the culture of the Team and Department, looking for ways to improve how we work and support colleagues.

Selection process details

Application and Selection
The application process will be split into 2 stages, testing the following Success Profiles:

Behaviours

Stage 1: Sift

  • Behaviour (lead): Seeing the Big Picture
  • Behaviour: Working Together
  • Behaviour: Making Effective Decisions

There is a 250-word limit per question.

When writing your application, remember:

  • the assessor won’t be reading your answers sequentially
  • do not assume that the same assessors will have read all of your answers
  • if talking about something in your first answer, make sure that you write the second answer as if you had not written the first (and so on!)

Most of our campaigns utilise multiple assessors and so it is possible that each of your answers would be viewed by different assessors.

In the event that we receive a large number of applications, we may conduct an initial sift using the lead behaviour listed in the advert. Candidates who pass the initial sift may be progressed to a full sift or progressed straight to interview.

If you run into any technical problems when applying through Be Applied (for example, trouble logging in or submitting your application), their support team can help. Please contact them at hello@beapplied.com.

Stage 2: Interview

  • Behaviours: Seeing the Big Picture, Working Together and Making Effective Decisions

Sift and Interview Dates
