About the role

Hammersmith and Fulham Councils key priorities as set out in the H&F Vision are:

  • Building shared prosperity
  • Doing things with residents, not to them
  • Taking pride in H&F
  • Creating a compassionate council
  • Being ruthlessly financially efficient
  • Rising to the challenge of the climate and ecological emergency

In order to achieve this vision, the Place Department are looking for a School Crossing Patroller to join the Parking service playing a crucial role in ensuring the safety of pedestrians travelling to and from school and be an integral part of the local community.

At your designated site, you’ll use a school crossing patrol sign (lollipop) to give clear signals to drivers to help pedestrians cross the road safely. You’ll control children who are waiting to cross the road and use appropriate action to avoid traffic accidents. Taking into consideration the speed of vehicles, nearby road junctions and adverse weather conditions, you’ll monitor traffic flow to ensure it is the safest time for children and adults to cross. You’ll report any problems or incidents to the Parking Policy Manager in the first instance, and the Head Teacher where necessary.

Training for this role will be provided.

You’ll have a friendly attitude with a good level of verbal communication skills. With some knowledge of road safety, you’ll have a clear understanding of how distance and speed of vehicles could change with road conditions and prevailing weather. You’ll have a level of physical fitness and alertness, to stand and walk for set periods of time. Punctual, reliable, yet assertive, you’ll be committed to ensuring the safety of both pedestrians and drivers.

Please refer to the Role Profile for more information.
