At the City of Wolverhampton Council, our Commercial Property Legal Team is at the heart of major regeneration schemes, landmark developments and high‑value strategic property work that is transforming the city. We’re growing—fast—and we’re looking for a talented Lead Lawyer to join us.

What you’ll do

  • A leader who can use their own knowledge and skills to develop others
  • Lead a high‑performing team delivering[JA1]
  • Act as principal legal advisor on high-profile and complex commercial property transactions and city‑shaping schemes.
  • Work closely with senior officers, Members, developers, funders and professional partners.
  • Drive forward innovative and commercially‑savvy legal solutions that unlock growth.
  • Manage a diverse caseload spanning acquisitions, disposals, leases, development agreements and strategic land matters.
  • Champion excellence, professional development and a collaborative team culture.

What we’re looking for

  • A qualified solicitor/barrister/legal executive with strong commercial property expertise.
  • Experience of leading or delivering major property, development including land assembly for or regeneration projects as well awareness of the wider issues such as best value and subsidy control
  • A confident negotiator with good judgement and a pragmatic, solution‑focused approach.
  • Someone who builds strong relationships and inspires confidence across the Council and with external partners.

NJC Pay Reward for 2026/2027:

The annual pay increases for 2026/27 for NJC Local Government Employees are currently being negotiated and, once agreed, will be effective from 1 April 2026.

Our working arrangements

All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style. Some roles are agile which enable and empower employees to maximise their performance and productivity, whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance. Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location. Roles with a field workstyle are usually allocated where employees are required to be out working in the community with a minimum requirement for 'touch down' space at any council location. Roles with a flexible workstyle have a flexible base location to meet the needs of the business and employees can work from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service requirements.
