Building Control
Full time
£40,182 - £42,060 per year

We are looking for a proactive and detail-focused Void Clerk of Works to oversee repairs and refurbishment works across our void housing stock. This is a key role ensuring that properties meet the Council’s lettable standards, statutory requirements, and our commitment to putting residents first.

As Void Clerk of Works, you will:

  • Carry out site visits and inspections across void properties to ensure works meet specifications, drawings, legislation and Council standards
  • Monitor contractor performance, checking quality, progress and compliance with health and safety requirements
  • Identify defects, organise remedial works, and ensure issues are resolved promptly
  • Measure and sample materials, record findings accurately, and prepare progress reports for stakeholders
  • Attend site meetings and provide technical advice to contractors on quality control and contract interpretation
  • Support the preparation of technical specifications, cost estimates and contract documentation
  • Check and verify contractor invoices to ensure accuracy before payment
  • Contribute to continuous service improvement and transformation initiatives

You will also play an important role in identifying disrepair in communal areas when attending sites, helping to maintain safe and accessible environments for residents across the borough.

About You

You will have:

  • Strong knowledge of building repairs and construction standards
  • Experience overseeing contractor performance and quality control
  • A sound understanding of health and safety legislation within construction or housing repairs
  • Excellent record-keeping and reporting skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively with tenants, contractors, suppliers and internal colleagues
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, as regular travel across the borough is required

Why Join Us?

This is an opportunity to directly impact the quality and safety of homes for our residents. You’ll be part of a service committed to high standards, strong contract management, and delivering value for money while maintaining compliance and quality at every stage.

If you’re ready to help ensure our properties are safe, compliant and ready to welcome new tenants, we’d love to hear from you.

Recruitment Information
Hillingdon Council operates a guaranteed interview scheme for candidates with disabilities that meet the essential criteria for the role and wish to be considered under this scheme. We believe in the option to choose, so candidates declaring a disability have the choice to opt in for consideration under this scheme, on a ‘per application’ basis.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable groups and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Some posts are subject to The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2019 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

In addition to verifying Right to Work in the UK and a new starter health questionnaire, the post is subject to the following pre-employment screening:

Please note: Priority will be given to those at risk of redundancy within Hillingdon Council. Current employees who are part of the redeployment pool must meet the essential criteria for shortlisting to be prioritised.

It may be necessary due to a high volume of applications to close this role early. We therefore recommend you apply as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
