Job summary

The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) is the independent economic and safety regulator for Britain’s railways and monitor of performance on England’s strategic road network.

Job description

Planning and Performance holds Network Rail to account for its performance and its stewardship of the national railway network infrastructure. The team of Power, Signalling and Telecommunication Systems comprises discipline engineering experts for Electrical Power, Telecoms and Railway Signalling. We support our Operations, Economic and Safety colleagues to ensure a safe, sustainable and reliable railway.

Reporting to the Principal, Electrification and Power engineer, the role is primarily dealing with holding infrastructure managers (IM’s) such as Network Rail and High Speed 1 to account for the asset management of Electrical & Power systems. The role provides opportunities to work with the industry to help shape the progression of Electrical & Power systems to a more sustainable future and a reliable railway. The job holder will be working with other ORR departments to provide subject matter opinion during investigations and Funding periodic reviews and be a key part of the Infrastructure Authorisation process.

Additional Information

At ORR, our hybrid working means that we currently work from our workplace location a minimum of 40% of our working week, although requirements to attend other offsite locations for official business, also count towards this level of attendance. Working arrangements are subject to continuous review.

Licences

Hold or able to hold Personal Track Safety certificate

Qualifications

Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline, or HND-qualified
And
Hold Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.

Memberships

Membership of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) or the Permanent Way Institution (PWI)
