Job Description

Discover yourself in Lewisham where what you do makes a difference to our vibrant and culturally diverse communities!

We have a rich history of welcoming people from all over the world and are proud to be recognised as the UK’s first Borough of Sanctuary, for our work in championing the rights of refugees and migrants.

Introduction

Do you have experience in Inspecting Council dwellings to advise on adaptation methods and provide technical advice to the Community Occupational Therapy team to support tenants with disabilities to live independently?

Are you able to deal sensitively with clients, considering cultural and religious needs when recommending construction solutions?

Do you have experience in carrying out site surveys, prepare sketch schemes and scaled working drawings, and submit documentation for planning and building regulation approvals.

Are you able to prepare specifications, schedules of work, manage tender procedures, obtain competitive estimates, and recommend suitable contractors?

What’s the role?

The role of the Occupational Therapy Surveyor is to provide specialised expert technical support and advice for adaptations to Community Occupational Therapy clients.

As well as ensuring all adaptation works comply with relevant planning and building regulations, as well as carrying out all statutory processes for Council-owned properties and ensuring all works are completed to a satisfactory standard.

What’s in it for you?

Excellent training and development opportunities, plus a range of benefits including:

  • Generous holiday allowance
  • Local Government Pension scheme
  • Flexible working and family friendly policies
  • Season ticket and bicycle loans
  • A range of staff discounts including local subsidised gym memberships
  • Supportive staff networks

What we’re looking for

We are seeking a motivated, organised, adaptable and experienced Occupational Therapy Surveyor to join our team and play a key role in delivering safe, effective, and person-centred housing solutions. You will have a strong understanding of the link between health, housing, and independence, and be confident in recommending appropriate adaptations.

You will be skilled in carrying out technical surveys, problem-solving creatively, and balancing clinical judgement with practical building considerations. You will also have excellent communication skills, a professional and customer-focused approach, and a commitment to promoting independence, dignity, and wellbeing for residents.

Location

The job is primarily based in Laurence House, Catford, London, SE6 4RU but we operate a hybrid approach where you will be required to work both in the office and from home on a regular basis.
