Location: Civic centre and other locations from time to time

The Post

An exciting opportunity to join the Brent School Attendance Service as the lead officer for Elective Home Education, Child Employment, and Performance Licensing, has arisen.

The Brent School Attendance Service work in partnership with families and schools to improve attendance and engagement with education, to offer appropriate advice and guidance, refer children and their families for specialist support when needed, and fulfil statutory duties in relation to education law. The post requires energy and enthusiasm, an excellent understanding of the reasons why parents choose to home educate and the ability to engage with families to assess the suitability of education provided.

The officer will lead on Elective Home Education and Child Employment & Performance Licences, providing high quality advice and guidance to parents, professionals, and schools, while maintaining high standards of casework and record keeping. The Officer will act when a child is not receiving a suitable education and initiate proceedings where parents are in breach of school attendance orders under section 443 of the Education Act 1996.

The Person

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • drive, resilience and enthusiasm, with a strong background in education welfare or social care.
  • high levels of motivation and organisation are required and a strong commitment to achieving continuous improvement will be essential.
  • an excellent understanding of Elective Home Education, Child Employment licensing regulations are essential.
  • the ability to work within strict deadlines and to make effective links with families to ensure children are in receipt of an education is vital.
