Health and Safety Co-ordinator

Health and Safety Co-ordinator

Health And Safety
£38,220 - £40,777 per year

About the role

Are you passionate about creating safe working environments and influencing positive change?

As a Health & Safety Advisor within the Housing Maintenance & Development team, you will play a pivotal role in protecting our workforce, contractors, residents and visitors while supporting the delivery of vital housing services.

Working at the heart of a fast-paced operational environment, you will be the trusted health and safety partner to our Direct Labour Organisation (DLO) trades teams and Property Refurbishment Contractors. Your expertise will help shape a strong safety culture, ensuring that health and safety is not just a compliance requirement but a core part of how we work every day.

This is an opportunity to make a tangible difference by working closely with managers and frontline teams to identify risks, develop practical solutions and promote best practice across a diverse range of maintenance and refurbishment activities. Through your advice, support and professional challenge, you will help ensure that everyone goes home safe at the end of the day while enabling high-quality services to be delivered to our residents.

If you are a proactive health and safety professional who enjoys building relationships, influencing decision-making and driving continuous improvement, this role offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute to safer homes, safer workplaces and stronger communities.

What will you be doing?

As the Health & Safety Advisor, you will provide expert advice and support to the Housing Maintenance & Development team, helping to create and maintain a strong culture of health, safety and compliance across housing maintenance and refurbishment activities.

Your role will involve developing and reviewing health and safety policies, procedures and guidance, while working closely with managers, trades teams and contractors to ensure legal compliance and the effective management of workplace risks. You will carry out audits, inspections, site visits and incident investigations, identifying areas for improvement and supporting managers to implement practical solutions.

You will monitor health and safety performance, analyse data and produce reports to help drive continuous improvement and support informed decision-making. Working collaboratively with internal teams, trade unions, contractors and external stakeholders, you will promote best practice and ensure a consistent approach to health and safety management across the service.

The role also includes delivering training, coaching managers on their health and safety responsibilities, supporting action plans, contributing to organisational policy development and leading health and safety-related projects. Ultimately, you will help ensure that employees, contractors, residents and visitors are protected from harm while enabling the safe and efficient delivery of housing services.

The post will require travel between Fleming Road Depot, Corby and Robinson Way Depot, Kettering along with site visits as and when required

About you

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Health & Safety professional who is passionate about creating safe working environments and driving a positive safety culture.

To be successful in this role, you must hold a minimum of one of the following qualifications:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (Level 3), or
  • Level 3 NVQ in Health and Safety, or
  • NCRQ Certificate in Applied Health and Safety, or
  • An equivalent health and safety qualification.

You will also hold Technical Membership (TechIOSH) of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), or be able to demonstrate equivalent professional status, knowledge and experience.

  • You will have substantial experience providing health and safety advice within a Local Authority, Housing Association, or Property Services environment, with a strong understanding of housing maintenance operations, risk management and employee wellbeing.
  • The successful candidate will have proven experience of supporting managers, employees and trade unions at all levels, interpreting and implementing new legislation, developing policies and procedures, and providing practical advice across a broad range of health and safety matters.
  • You will be confident undertaking audits, inspections, accident investigations and compliance reviews, using findings to drive continuous improvement and support organisational objectives.
  • You will possess excellent communication, influencing and relationship-building skills, with the ability to challenge constructively, deliver training and presentations, facilitate workshops, and translate complex legislation into clear and practical guidance.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are essential.

In addition, you will have:

  • Up-to-date knowledge of health and safety legislation, regulations and best practice.
  • Experience of developing health and safety guidance and management systems.
  • Experience of supporting projects and advising on health, safety and wellbeing matters.
  • Knowledge of GDPR and its practical application.
  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • A demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, with an understanding of the differing needs of employees, contractors, residents and service users.

Most importantly, you will be a proactive, customer-focused professional who can build trust, influence decision-making and help ensure that employees, contractors, residents and visitors are protected from harm while enabling the safe and effective delivery of housing services.
