    Portsmouth's City Council's Transport Planning Team are progressing a number of initiatives to progress delivery of the Portsmouth Transport Strategy, and our new Portsmouth Parking Strategy, which sets out policies such as developing Residents' Parking Zones, using kerbside space more flexibly, and developing more sustainable transport options so that more people can travel without having to use a vehicle. Alongside delivering innovative Solent Future Transport Zone projects such as our rental e-scooter trial and bike share scheme it is an exciting time to join the team.

    Your new role

    The Transport Planning Team is looking to recruit a Technical Transport Planner to support delivery of our residents' parking programme. As a Technical Transport Planner, you will be responsible for supporting the provision of advice on transport planning issues, contribute to the development of transport policy and strategy, deliver solutions to varied and complex parking issues, and engage and consult with councilors, community groups and residents.


    Who is the person summary:

    You will be a proactive and organised individual with a relevant degree in transport planning, geography or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience. You will have strong analytical skills, be confident interpreting data, and understand the social and environmental impacts of transport.

    You will be an effective communicator with excellent report-writing skills and the ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. Able to manage competing priorities and work independently, you will bring strong project coordination skills, a problem-solving mindset and a passion for helping shape sustainable transport improvements across Portsmouth.

    Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)

    As part of Local Government Reorganisation, current plans will see Portsmouth City Council combine with the district and borough councils of Fareham, Gosport and Havant and parts of East Hampshire and Winchester district councils to form a new, larger unitary authority for south east Hampshire.

    We are working towards an implementation date of 1st April 2028, known as vesting day, subject to Parliamentary approval.
