We are looking for enthusiastic and flexible individuals to join us as Casual Library Assistants. Successful candidates will work at all of the above branches as and when required, and should be able to travel to each location.

About the Role

As a Casual Library Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in delivering a high-quality, customer-focused service to our library users and schools. No two days are the same – one day you might be helping a customer with digital queries, and the next supporting a children’s activity or recommending the perfect read.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Providing a friendly, welcoming service to customers of all ages
  • Supporting and delivering library activities and events for children, young people and adults
  • Helping customers with digital skills and technology
  • Promoting books, reading and library services
  • Shelving stock, packing boxes and moving items as required
  • Supporting local, regional and national initiatives
  • Working across different library locations when needed

What We’re Looking For

You’ll be someone who:

  • Works effectively as part of a team and independently when required
  • Is accurate, reliable and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Has a genuine enthusiasm for books and reading
  • Possesses good digital skills and a willingness to help others use technology
  • Delivers excellent customer service with strong communication skills
  • Remains calm, helpful and professional in demanding situations
  • Is flexible and able to work a varied shift pattern, including Saturdays
  • Can travel to any Knowsley library location as required

Why Join Us?

You’ll be part of a friendly, supportive team making a real difference in the community – helping people learn, connect, and discover new opportunities every day.

If you’re passionate about helping others and believe libraries are at the heart of strong communities, we’d love to hear from you.

Come and join us – and be part of Knowsley Library Service’s success.

We welcome applications from residents and beyond, regardless of background, belief, or identity, recognising the value that diversity brings to our organisation. We particularly welcome applications from individuals from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds and candidates with disabilities as we acknowledge their underrepresentation in our workforce.
