About us
Farnworth CE Primary is a caring church school where “we all grow together and we all have a voice.” Ofsted (most recent inspection) judged the school Good; pupils enjoy a rich curriculum, strong pastoral care and positive relationships. Our context: low pupil premium; low EAL. We are ambitious for every child to become an excellent, confident communicator who loves reading and writing.

The role
We are seeking an energetic, committed and creative Class Teacher who will also hold the TLR for English. You will lead the development of English across the school, working with leaders and colleagues to secure high‑quality teaching, consistent curriculum progression in reading and writing, and strong outcomes for all pupils. This is an excellent opportunity for your ongoing career development as you work in partnership with the Senior Leadership Team, the staff, the Governing Body and the wider school community to continue to move our school forward for the benefit of every child.

Key responsibilities

  • Teach an agreed class to a consistently high standard: plan, deliver and assess engaging lessons that meet the needs of all pupils.
  • Lead English across the school: develop and maintain a clear progression for reading and writing, monitor teaching and outcomes, and support colleagues to improve practice.
  • Create a culture of high expectations for English attainment and oracy; ensure children have regular opportunities to apply core skills and write at length.
  • Deliver and broker CPD, coaching and modelling to develop staff subject knowledge and assessment expertise in English.
  • Analyse assessment information, identify priorities and report on progress to senior leaders and governors.
  • Ensure books and reading texts are well matched to pupils’ phonic and reading ability; work with phonics leads to secure fluency for all.
  • Promote the school’s Christian values and contribute positively to school life.

We offer

  • A supportive, friendly staff team and motivated children who are proud of their school.
  • Professional development tailored to your needs and leadership development opportunities.
  • A clear improvement plan and strong senior leadership to support your impact as subject lead.
