Are you passionate about using data and intelligence to make communities safer?
Birmingham City Council is seeking two Community Safety Analysts to join our Community Safety Team. This is a pivotal role at the heart of the Birmingham Community Safety Partnership (BCSP), acting as the central intelligence resource that drives evidence-led decision-making.
You will provide both strategic insight and operational analysis to tackle crime, anti-social behaviour, and emerging community safety risks across the city.
What you'll do...
- Lead Strategic Analysis
- Produce and refresh the Strategic Needs Assessment (SNA), shaping city-wide community safety priorities working with and making use of internal and external partners data and intel.
- Analyse complex datasets to identify trends, risks, and emerging issues
- Translate data into clear, actionable recommendations for senior leaders
- Deliver Tactical Insight
- Produce problem profiles and hotspot analysis using problem-oriented policing methods (e.g. SARA model)
- Provide intelligence to support targeted interventions and frontline services
- Support Local Community Safety Partnerships with place-based analysis
- Drive Performance & Impact
- Develop and manage performance frameworks and KPIs
- Evaluate the impact of interventions and partnership activity
- Create dashboards and visualisations (e.g. Power BI) to communicate insights
- Ensure Data Governance Excellence
- Manage complex multi-agency datasets with a strong focus on data quality, security, and integrity
- Ensure compliance with GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, and Crime and Disorder Act 1998
- Influence and Communicate
- Present findings to senior stakeholders, partnerships, and decision-making forums
- Contribute to funding bids, strategies, and service improvement plans
What you'll need...
We're seeking an experienced analyst with a passion for using data and intelligence to improve community safety outcomes. You'll bring a strong analytical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to turn complex data into clear, actionable insights that inform strategic and operational decision-making.
You will be able to demonstrate:
- Significant experience analysing data within community safety, crime, criminal justice, local government, or a related public sector environment.
- Experience working with large and complex datasets, ideally across multiple agencies and stakeholders.
- A proven track record of producing high-quality analytical outputs that influence strategy, policy, and service delivery.
- Advanced analytical and numerical skills, with experience identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for intervention.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data visualisation tools such as Power BI, with GIS experience desirable.
- The ability to communicate complex information clearly through reports, presentations, and data visualisations to a range of audiences.
- Knowledge of intelligence and crime analysis techniques, research methodologies, and performance management approaches.
- A sound understanding of data protection, information governance, GDPR, and information-sharing frameworks.
- A degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline, such as criminology, statistics, data analysis, social research, or public policy, or equivalent professional experience.
