You must have previous cleaning experience and the ability to follow established policies, procedures, and instructions. A strong commitment to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene is essential, as is the capacity to deliver an efficient and effective cleaning service that meets the needs of the children and young people within the home.

Applicants should be able to communicate effectively with children, young people, and staff, and work collaboratively as part of a team. You must also be willing to undertake all necessary training and development opportunities to support your role.

As the successful candidate, you will share responsibility with care staff for ensuring the home is kept clean, tidy, and safe, helping to provide a welcoming and healthy environment. Flexibility is essential, as is a positive attitude towards role modelling healthy choices for children and young people.

ROLE AND PURPOSE

To carry out general cleaning duties in the home. To maintain, alongside care staff, a clean, tidy and healthy environment for the children and young people living in the home.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Follows job breakdowns when carrying out duties to ensure the cleanliness of all communal areas of the home such as lounge, dining area, utility rooms, corridors, bathrooms and toilets.

2. Maintains the kitchen clean and report any issues who might hinder food hygiene and therefore food preparation.

3. Undertakes basic food preparation under supervision.

4. Attends to the home’s linen and clothing including washing and ironing.

5. Follows care staff directions when cleaning and tidying individual children and young people’s bedrooms.

6. Assists care staff in maintaining the office(s) clean.

7. Makes use of all domestic type equipment such as dishwasher, washing machine and iron.

8. Undertakes other duties of a domestic nature as required, ensuring compliance with City Council policies and procedures.

9. Within prescribed guidelines, the post holder will be required to demonstrate some initiative and discretion in carrying out the duties and decisions on issues relating to the main tasks.

10. Any problems or areas of concern will be referred to the supervisor or shift leader

11. Under supervision makes day to day decisions around the implementation of policy and procedures of the Department in relation to the job.

12. Participates in appropriate training and staff development.

13. The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and associated legislation places responsibilities for health and safety on Hull City Council, as your employer and you as an employee of the council. In addition to the Councils overall duties, the post holder has personal responsibility for their own health & safety and that of other employees; additional and more specific responsibilities are identified in the Council’s Corporate H&S policy.
