About Camden
Camden is changing on the inside to make life better for everyone. Our residents and communities are at the heart of everything we do. We’re home to the most important conversations happening today and we’re making radical social change a reality, so that nobody gets left behind. Here’s where you can help decide a better future for us all.
About the team/service
Camden Adult Community Learning provides learning opportunities across the borough of Camden, in community settings, schools and libraries.
Our role is to:
-
encourage and support adults of all ages and backgrounds to make their first steps back into learning
-
work in close partnership with local community organisations and groups, enabling us to reach those most in need and least likely to engage
-
provide the highest quality teaching and learning and progression routes for all our learners
Our work is underpinned by inclusive learning and approaches that recognise the diversity of our community.
What You’ll Be Doing / How You’ll Be Involved
This is a fantastic opportunity for experienced tutors to teach accredited and non-accredited ESOL English classes (reading, writing, speaking and listening) at Pre-entry to Entry Level 3 within community venues.
The courses usually run for 2-4 hours per week in each venue. Successful tutors might be teaching at one centre only or may be required to teach at venues across Camden. You will also be paid additional hours for any training session or meetings attended.
You will plan and develop courses using course outlines, assessments, schemes of work, lesson plans and learner profile and design high-quality learning activities to help students achieve and progress in their learning, both, in externally and in internally accredited courses. This will involve assessing student’s initial starting points, agreeing learning goals, monitoring their progression whilst providing regular feedback throughout their learner journey and providing them relevant advice and guidance. You will have experience of planning and delivering classes which meet the needs of learners with very limited English, as well as meeting the Quality requirements for funders and the Service. You will have experience teaching accredited and non-accredited ESOL courses in community settings to Ofsted requirements.
You are expected to work alongside fellow ESOL tutors, centre managers and administrators to actively promote learning opportunities for potential new students in the local area. We especially want to engage and attract those who are hard to reach and have experienced disadvantages in relation to learning opportunities. You should create a classroom environment that is fun, friendly and conducive to the learning needs of adult learners from diverse backgrounds in a climate of equality of access and opportunity for all. Working with the ESOL Programme Manager and other ACL Managers, you will advise and support the learners onto progression opportunities, including signposting learners to IAG services in local colleges, organisations or employment opportunities and attending Camden events to attract and promote ACL courses. You will be expected to attend meetings to report and provide updates, to complete various documentation and comply with the Service’s Quality procedures including RARPA requirements and achievement records for each learner.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS. Please note Camden also offers the DBS update service.
