About Camden
Camden is building somewhere where everyone can thrive, the best place to live, work, study, and visit. We’re not just home to the UK’s fastest-growing economy. We’re also home to bold ideas, big conversations, and real social change. We are making radical change a reality so that nobody gets left behind.
This is where you can help shape a better future for children, young people, and families.
The Role
As our Head of Service for Corporate Parenting, you will lead and commission services that make a lasting difference for children in care, care leavers, and young people in Camden.
You’ll provide strategic leadership for a wide range of services, including:
- Looked after children’s social work teams
- Our care leavers service
- Fostering and permanency services
- Resources and commissioned supported housing for young people
You’ll make sure these services meet government guidance, statutory requirements, and local need, driving continuous improvement and innovation.
Working closely with foster carers, schools, health, CAMHS, residential providers, police, and community partners, you’ll ensure children and young people have the care, education, and health support they need to thrive. You’ll also lead on transitional safeguarding for care-experienced young adults, making sure their journey into independence is safe and well-supported.
As part of the senior leadership team, you will deputise for the Divisional Director and manage significant budgets and resources. At the heart of this role is a commitment to listening to and acting on the voices of children and young people, making sure their experiences shape the services we deliver.
Camden’s ambition is to be the best corporate parent possible, and you will play a central role in making that ambition real.
About You
We’re looking for a confident, collaborative, and inspirational leader with:
- Significant strategic and operational experience in children’s social care at service manager level or above
- A track record of leading and embedding change in large, complex organisations
- Strong leadership and management skills, able to inspire, delegate, problem-solve, and deliver through others
- A thorough understanding of legislation, regulation, and best practice for children in care and care leavers
- Experience of managing budgets, people, and assets effectively in a complex environment
- Excellent communication and influencing skills to work with senior colleagues, elected members, partners, and communities
Most importantly, you’ll bring a deep commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, and a determination to ensure Camden is the best Black corporate parent we can be.
