HLTA Job Vacancy October 2026

The Pines School is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and committed Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our friendly hard working team. Our HLTAs work collaboratively with our teaching team, overseen by senior leaders, to provide high quality teaching and learning opportunities for whole classes across the school.

The Pines Primary School is a vibrant 1-form entry primary school with a Nursery and a 20-place specialist resource provision. We have children from a wide range of backgrounds and also have an above national % for pupils with SEND. We are proud of what we do to make a difference to the lives of children and their families. We use an approach of continuous provision in EYFS and KS1 as we believe in the importance of learning through play. We have also recently introduced OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) into our lunchtimes.

As an HLTA at The Pines, you would be responsible for teaching classes on a regular basis as part of our PPA and leadership cover timetable. You would also be expected to provide class cover to enable teachers to be released from class for a variety of reasons, including the possibility of covering short-term absences. For this reason, your timetable and teaching commitments would vary each week, overseen by the Deputy Head. You would be provided with medium term planning and learning expectations by teachers but would also be expected to use your own initiative and produce some resources of your own. You will have your own PPA time to facilitate this.

The successful candidate will join a team who are passionate about engaging and inspiring young people in their learning. You will need to be committed, have a sense of humour and have boundless energy.

We need a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant who:

  • Is willing to learn. Previous experience of working with children in an educational setting and children with SEND is desirable
  • Can provide tailored support for children under the guidance of our team, enabling children to access the curriculum
  • Has a willingness to be flexible, no day will be the same
  • Is able to work collaboratively with others
  • Is calm, patient and empathetic
  • Has the ability to work in a team

Our children would like someone who:

  • Makes us feel safe and understands us
  • Is kind, even if we make the wrong choices
  • Has high expectations for us
  • Who helps us to feel confident to take risks, to challenge ourselves and who believes we can achieve

We can offer you:

  • An inclusive ethos
  • Happy, motivated children who enjoy coming to school
  • A caring, committed team of staff
  • A commitment to professional development for all staff
  • Supportive teams who work well together
