What's the Role All About?

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Homelessness Prevention Team as a Housing Support Officer. In this rewarding role, you will support vulnerable households who are temporarily accommodated by the Council, as well as individuals and families experiencing homelessness whilst remaining in their current accommodation. Your focus will be on promoting independence, helping people overcome barriers, and supporting them to sustain their tenancies, preventing repeat homelessness and improving long-term outcomes.

What Will Your Day Look Like?

No two days are the same. You'll provide practical and intensive housing-related support to people with a range of complex needs, including refugees, rough sleepers, individuals with mental health needs, those with experience of the criminal justice system, and people fleeing domestic abuse. You'll carry out risk assessments, develop personalised support plans, work alongside Homelessness Case Officers to help people move into suitable long-term accommodation, and make referrals to specialist services where additional support is needed. You'll also collaborate with partner agencies, advocate on behalf of clients, and help ensure they have access to the services they need to thrive.

Who Are We Looking For?

We're looking for a compassionate and motivated individual with experience of working in housing-related support services or supporting vulnerable people with complex needs. You'll have excellent communication and organisational skills, the ability to build positive relationships with clients and partner organisations, and confidence in advocating for individuals to achieve positive outcomes. A proactive approach, strong problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to supporting people to achieve independence are essential.
