Our Team:

The team is made up of 4 Inspectors, 1 Senior Engineer and a Principal Officer. The base for the team is Municipal Buildings Kingsway Widnes.

Most of the work is site based but orders are issued from the office/home.

As part of the team, you will have to personally deal with the General Public, Our Contractor, Various Utilities and Local Councillors.

Hours: 37 Flexible working is available between the hours of 7.30am -7.00pm.

Your Contributions:

We are seeking an Inspection Officer to carry out routine inspections of public and private highways, identifying defects and hazards ensuring compliance with the Highways Act 1980.

You will be responsible for recording and reporting issues, coordinating repairs, gathering photographic evidence for the defence of insurance claims against the Council both internally to the Council and its insurers. Evidence from your inspections may be required to assist in defending claims and you will be required to give evidence in court when required.

This physically demanding role requires walking inspections and regular travel across the borough.

A valid driving license and vehicle access are essential. Reasonable adjustments will be made under the Equality Act.

Self-motivated and capable of working independently you will be skilled in managing stakeholder relationships

You will have:

  • A HND in an engineering discipline or similar relevant technical qualification, which will need to be kept up to date, or experience
  • Experience in highway inspection or site investigation with a proven ability to work effectively with contractors.
  • Understanding of highway and traffic legislation and statutory requirements, with basic knowledge of highway construction methods
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks and be proficient in Microsoft Office applications
