Blacon High School is seeking to appoint a dedicated, enthusiastic and highly motivated Literacy Intervention Assistant to join our successful and supportive team.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in improving literacy outcomes and helping students develop the reading skills, confidence and enjoyment needed to succeed across the curriculum. Working closely with the English Faculty, SEND Team and wider school staff, you will deliver targeted literacy interventions that help students overcome barriers to learning, make accelerated progress and achieve their full potential.

This position is funded until 31 December 2027 and is therefore offered on a fixed-term basis.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about supporting young people and who believes that strong literacy skills give students the foundation for lifelong success.

We are seeking candidates who:

  • Have experience of working with children or young people in an educational or similar setting.
  • Have excellent literacy, communication and organisational skills.
  • Are passionate about reading, literacy and improving outcomes for young people.
  • Can motivate, support and inspire students to achieve their best.
  • Are committed to inclusive practice and removing barriers to learning.
  • Can develop positive relationships with students, staff, parents and carers.
  • Are resilient, flexible and able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Share our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Delivering targeted literacy and reading interventions to individual students and small groups.
  • Supporting students to develop reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary and confidence.
  • Monitoring and recording student progress and adapting support where required.
  • Working collaboratively with teaching staff to identify needs and plan effective interventions.
  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to student reviews and progress discussions.
  • Liaising with parents, carers and colleagues to support student achievement and wellbeing.
  • Preparing and maintaining resources to support intervention programmes.
  • Supporting the school's commitment to inclusion, high expectations and student success.
