We are seeking a motivated and proactive Senior Enforcement Officer [Planning] to play a key role within our Planning Service. This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward‑thinking authority committed to high‑quality development, robust enforcement, and excellent customer service.

As our Senior Enforcement Officer [Planning] , you will:

Lead and manage a small team of two staff; a Planning Enforcement Officer, responsible for investigating alleged breaches of planning control, and a Monitoring Officer, responsible for the administration of S106 agreements and the management of planning condition discharge processes.

Oversee complex and high‑profile investigations, providing professional guidance, mentoring, and quality assurance to ensure cases are handled effectively and in accordance with legislation and policy.

Take the lead on the most challenging enforcement matters, including formal notices, appeals, prosecutions, and negotiations to secure positive outcomes.

Work collaboratively across the Planning Service and with internal and external stakeholders in services like Legal, Building Control, Environmental Health etc

Contribute to continuous improvement by helping shape procedures, reviewing processes, and supporting performance monitoring.

You will have experience in planning or a closely related area and will be confident in managing complex investigations and representing the Council at appeal or prosecution. You will also have excellent communication skills and will have significant experience of negotiating and influencing to ensure that high quality outcomes are achieved.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and negotiation, skills with an ability to manage competing priorities and work under pressure.
