Senior Library Assistant
30 hours per week
We are looking to employ a Senior Assistant to work 30 hours per week at Lord Louis Library, Newport, Isle of Wight.
The main responsibilities of the post are:
- To assist the Library Supervisor in the day-to-day running of the library and the management of the building and its book stock.
- To ensure that library users of all ages feel welcome and to help them find the books and information they need.
- To promote the Library Service to the local community and work with Library Supervisor to ensure that our services meet local needs.
- To liaise with local schools, Early Years settings and family groups to encourage library use and reading for pleasure.
- To encourage the use of the library by families by planning and leading Rhyme Times, story-times, craft activities and other events, promoting the Summer Reading Challenge, and organising and leading class visits to the library.
The post is 30 hours a week, spread over four 7½ hour days, typically 9am to 5.30pm, with a one-hour lunch break (unpaid.)
The post-holder will be required to work two Saturdays out of three. Wednesday will be a non-working day, with an additional weekday off when scheduled to work on a Saturday.
