Senior Specialist Learning Support Officer, WISENDSS Central Team

About the Role:

• Successful candidates will work across educational settings and provisions, alongside the advisory teacher, to support inclusive practices for pupils with SEN. The work will include fulfilling the Team Around The School initialtive, bringing services and support together for Wakefield children and families.

Key Responsibilities:

• Senior Specialist learning support officers undertaking the outreach role to mainstream schools will be asked to run groups, model good practice, undertake pupil observations and assessments that contribute towards the Graduated Approach to SEND. In addition this may include support to resource provisions, who educate pupils with an EHCP.

What will be expected from me?

• The successful candidate will work within the central cluster teams covering the Central, North West and South West areas of the district, but may work in other areas depending on service need.

• We are looking for a motivated individual who can provide excellent support to students with complex needs. This may be delivering learning/interventions to groups/individuals with complex needs. This may be supporting pupils to access mainstream lessons.

Essential requirements:

We are looking for candidates with knowledge and experiences of:

• Pupils with identified needs of Autism/Social communication, Social emotional mental health, Learning support.
• The ability to complement the professional work of teachers in the service, taking responsibility for agreed learning activities, under an agreed system of supervision.
• The ability to provide specialist support and advice to pupils, schools, families and other agencies with respect to children and young people with additional needs.
• Who can be responsible for the management and development of agreed specialist interventions under guidance and/or management of other non-specialist support staff including assistance with monitoring of work, appraisal and training.
• Who can promote and support the achievement of all children through work with officers, agencies, schools, families and pupils where support is required to ensure inclusion of needs.
• Who can participate as a team member in the operation, promotion, evaluation and development of the service and its provision for children with SEND.

We recognise that candidates may be supporting individuals with additional needs outside of a school environment (for example individuals currently working with adults, or care workers).Therefore, applications from individuals who have wider experiences relating to SEND are welcomed.

This post is term-time 35 hour/week
