Salary: £47,665 - £50,908 per annum (pro rata for part time)

About the Role

Are you an experienced SHEQ professional looking to make a significant impact within frontline operational services? Nottingham City Council is seeking a SHEQ Lead to provide professional leadership and assurance across Waste & Cleansing Services, helping to ensure services are safe, compliant and continuously improving.

As the SHEQ Lead – Waste & Cleansing Services, you will provide senior professional leadership and assurance on health, safety, environmental and quality compliance across Waste & Cleansing operations. Working under the strategic direction of the Divisional SHEQ Manager, you will act as a delegated lead for operational compliance and service assurance, ensuring statutory requirements, management system standards and safe systems of work are embedded throughout service delivery.

You will work closely with operational leaders and frontline teams, providing evidence-based advice, professional challenge and assurance activity to drive continuous improvement and support effective risk management.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide senior professional leadership and assurance on SHEQ compliance across Waste & Cleansing operations.
• Ensure statutory requirements and safe systems of work are consistently implemented and maintained.
• Plan and deliver inspections, audits and compliance reviews, identifying non-compliance and driving corrective actions.
• Lead operational compliance assurance activity, ensuring risks are identified, assessed and effectively managed.
• Monitor compliance performance, analyse data and identify trends and emerging risks.
• Provide professional advice and proportionate challenge to managers and operational leaders.
• Act as the technical lead for ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 within operational environments.
• Prepare assurance reports, audit findings and governance information to support effective decision-making.
• Support incident investigations, assurance reviews and the promotion of organisational learning.

About You

You will have experience of:

• Significant experience in a senior SHEQ, compliance or health and safety role within a high-risk operational environment.
• Strong knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation and its practical application.
• Experience of audits, inspections and compliance assurance activity within frontline operational services.
• Practical experience of working with ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 management systems.
• The ability to provide evidence-based professional advice and challenge.
• Experience of compliance monitoring, incident investigation and the use of data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Excellent communication, relationship management and report writing skills.

You will hold a relevant qualification, or be able to demonstrate substantial equivalent experience in Health & Safety, SHEQ, training or competence management.
