Teaching Assistant

Fixed Term until 31/08/2027

17.5 hrs per week

Monday to Friday 12pm – 3.30pm (Term Time only)

We are looking to appoint a caring, enthusiastic and committed Teaching Assistant to join our team at St Mary’s CE Primary School.

The successful candidate will have a specific responsibility for supporting a child with an EHCP who has autism and ADHD. You will play an important role in helping the child to access learning, develop independence, manage the demands of the school day and feel safe, included and successful in school.

The role will involve working closely with the child, including support during lunchtime and playtimes, as well as in the classroom. You will work alongside the class teacher and Assistant Headteacher (Inclusion) to provide consistent support and implement strategies and interventions identified within the child’s EHCP.

Alongside this individual support, you will also be expected to support the wider class, including working with small groups of pupils, leading or supporting group activities and assisting the class teacher with learning and classroom activities.

We are looking for someone who:

• Is caring, patient and able to build a strong, trusting relationship with a child
• Has a genuine interest in supporting children with autism and ADHD
• Understands that children with additional needs may require different approaches to communication, learning, behaviour and regulation
• Can provide calm, consistent and nurturing support while encouraging independence
• Is able to recognise and respond appropriately to the individual needs of the child
• Is confident supporting groups of children and contributing positively to classroom learning
• Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively with colleagues and families
• Understands the importance of safeguarding, confidentiality and promoting children’s wellbeing
• Is willing to contribute to the wider life of our school

Experience of working with children with autism, ADHD or other additional needs would be desirable. However, we would also welcome applications from someone who has the right attitude, commitment and willingness to learn and develop their understanding of SEND.
