Teaching Assistant – Key Stage 2

Location: St Edward's Church of England (Voluntary Aided) Primary School
Contract: Permanent, Term Time Only + INSET Days (39 weeks per year, 0.76 FTE)
Hours: 32.5 hours per week (8:30am–3:30pm, with 30 minutes unpaid lunch)
Start Date: To suit the candidate (ASAP/after October half-term/January 2027)

Salary: Teaching Assistant – APTC 3 Points 5–6 (£23,290–£23,623)

Due to the continued growth of our school and high demand for places, we are looking for an enthusiastic, caring and skilled Teaching Assistant to join our team, initially working within Key Stage 2.

We are looking for someone who understands the important role a Teaching Assistant can play in helping children learn successfully. The successful candidate will work alongside class teachers to support high-quality teaching, help children become confident and independent learners and deliver targeted interventions for individuals and small groups.

This role is not primarily focused on supporting children with SEND. However, inclusion is everyone's responsibility at St Edward's, and the successful candidate will need a good understanding of strategies that enable children with a range of needs to access learning successfully.

You should be confident in adapting your support, following individual strategies and working alongside teachers and our Inclusion Team where appropriate. Most importantly, you will understand that effective support should enable children to participate in classroom learning and develop confidence and independence.

About the Role

Working initially within Key Stage 2, you will:

• work alongside the class teacher to support high-quality teaching and learning
• support individuals and groups, using effective questioning, modelling and scaffolding to develop understanding and independence
• deliver targeted interventions and provide useful feedback on children's progress
• support learning across the curriculum, particularly in reading, writing and mathematics
• use appropriate strategies to support children with additional needs and barriers to learning
• promote positive behaviour, resilience and strong attitudes to learning
• build positive relationships with children, colleagues and families.

• has experience of working successfully with primary-aged children
• can confidently support learning in the classroom and deliver targeted interventions
• has strong literacy, numeracy and communication skills
• understands how to scaffold learning while developing children's independence
• has a good understanding of inclusive practice and strategies for supporting children with SEND
• has high expectations for every child
• is caring, proactive, flexible and works well as part of a team
• shares our Christian vision and commitment to ensuring that every child flourishes
• can articulate why they are interested in this particular role in our unique school.

Essential Requirements

Applicants must have:

• experience of working with primary-aged children in an educational setting
• a relevant Level 2 qualification or above in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare or a related field
• good literacy, numeracy and communication skills
• an understanding of effective classroom support and targeted intervention
• a good understanding of inclusive practice and strategies for supporting children with SEND
• the ability to work effectively as part of a team
• a strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
