Are you a proactive and self-motivated individual looking for a rewarding role?
We are seeking a passionate team member to join our Corporate Debt and Housing Income team to work within a multi-skilled team that delivers essential services. This is an excellent opportunity to work at the heart of the council and provide exceptional customer service to a wide range of stakeholders.
Experience in debt recovery would be advantageous. While there will be inbound calls, the main responsibility will involve general debt management work, including outbound calling and ensuring timely and accurate information is collected to support the court process, which is vital for maximising the authority's financial funds.
The primary role will focus on recovering debts, including sundry debts and housing income, and working with the wider team to collect council tax and business rates (NNDR) arrears. This role requires effective communication with customers, monitoring accounts and taking appropriate recovery actions.
Applicants should have experience in a customer-focused administrative support role, demonstrate a proven ability to meet service performance targets and possess the capacity to adapt to a constantly changing environment influenced by economic stability and legislative changes. While specific experience in debt recovery is advantageous, we are also open to fast learners with excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
If this sounds like you, then we want to hear from you!
We have a hybrid working approach with an expectation that you will work from the Civic Centre in Folkestone at least one day per week.
Our Civic Centre is in the heart of Folkestone, with easy access to transport links, local shops, entertainment facilities and the seafront. We have a flexible working culture that supports and encourages Hybrid and flexible working arrangements. Recognised by Best Companies as an outstanding organisation to work for, we have a real focus on staff engagement, health & wellbeing and development.
Folkestone & Hythe District Council is an extraordinary place to live, work and visit. With an established arts and cultural hub and unrivalled regeneration, including the Garden Town Otterpool Park, the area is well connected. London is just under an hour away via the High-Speed rail link and access to mainland Europe via the Channel Tunnel.
