This post is within the Highways Development Control Team. The role will focus on overseeing the safe and efficient management of demolition and construction associated with approved planning applications. In April 2023 the London Borough of Tower Hamlets adopted a new Code of Construction Practice. In October 2023 the Council introduced a charge for the assessment, approval and monitoring of Demolition and Construction Management Plans. This post will head up a small team dealing with these new processes. The successful applicant will need to have experience in applying relevant Highway and Planning legislation and knowledge of how development can impact on the local highway and community. This is a role which carries the responsibility of ensuring that all demolition and construction activities are carried out safely, legally and with minimal impact on the highway network, its users and the local residents.
Reporting to the Team Leader Highways Development Control, the postholder will be required to work closely with colleagues in other highway disciplines, Environmental Health and Planning. They will also be required to attend site visits when necessary to ensure that works are being carried in compliance with the agreed documents and in line with the approved planning condition and be able to negotiate with developers and their contractors.
Hybrid working is supported but presence in the office is required.
