Summary
What you'll do
As the Director of Risk, Assurance and Heath & Safety, you will lead NHG's enterprise risk strategy, embedding improved risk and governance arrangements, ensuring robust governance, compliance, and resident safety. You will be responsible for NHG's corporate health and safety arrangements, driving a culture where risks are proactively identified, mitigated, and aligned with our 'Better Together' vision. Your leadership will safeguard NHG's operational integrity, compliance, and resident safety by driving and setting new behaviours across NHG.
How you'll do it
Ensure NHG's Enterprise Risk Management & Assurance Frameworks is operating effectively, integrating health and safety compliance with broader risk strategies to meet Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) and other requisite regulatory or legislative standards.
Act as NHG's key advisor on landlord health and safety matters, ensuring compliance with legislation (e.g., HSE guidelines) and fostering safe environments for residents and staff.
Oversee the internal audit function, delivering actionable insights to the Audit & Risk Committee and driving improvements in control environments.
Develop policies to address operational risks, including fire safety, contractor management, and third-party due diligence, ensuring alignment with NHG's risk appetite.
Partner with the Executive Board, Senior Leadership Team and HR to embed health and safety, risk awareness, and competency frameworks across NHG.
Implement systems to monitor and report on health and safety risks, ensuring transparency and swift resolution of issues impacting resident well-being.

Essential:
Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (CIA) qualification or equivalent
NEBOSH/IOSH certification or equivalent, with proven success in managing health and safety compliance within regulated environments.
Strong senior leadership experience in regulated environments, successfully working within multi-disciplinary teams and at all levels, including Executive and Senior Management, Heads of Service and external partners.
Expertise in designing enterprise risk frameworks, including integration of health and safety protocols, fraud prevention, and third-party risk management.
Track record of advising senior leadership on regulatory compliance (e.g., RSH, HSE) and driving cultural change toward risk accountability.
Advanced stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence SLT, regulators, and cross-functional teams.
Desirable:
- Experience in social housing or public sector risk management, particularly in health and safety contexts.
