Community
Flexible
£20,485 - £33,456 per year

Your typical day could start with welcoming residents and community groups into one of our busy community centres, helping them access activities and services in the local community. Later, you might be carrying out health and safety checks, coordinating bookings and room set-ups, before supporting a local event or community project that brings people together and helps residents thrive. No two days are the same, and every day is an opportunity to help create welcoming spaces where people can connect, learn and flourish.

As a Duty Operations Assistant, you'll play a key role in the day-to-day operation of our community centres, helping to ensure they remain safe, welcoming and inclusive spaces for local residents and community groups. Acting as the first point of contact for residents, visitors and community groups, you'll provide excellent customer service while supporting the smooth running of activities, events and services that make a real difference to our communities.

What you’ll do

  • Supporting the day-to-day operation of community centres, ensuring they are safe, welcoming, inclusive, and well-used by local residents.
  • Acting as the first point of contact for residents, community groups, and visitors, providing excellent customer service and signposting people to relevant services and support.
  • Building positive relationships with residents, community organisations, volunteers, and external stakeholders to support local initiatives and community activities.
  • Managing room bookings, activity schedules, customer enquiries, and administrative tasks to ensure community spaces run smoothly.
  • Maintaining accurate records, databases, reports, invoices, and purchase requests in line with organisational procedures.
  • Carrying out routine health and safety checks, inspections, fire alarm tests, and reporting repairs or maintenance issues as required.
  • Helping to ensure community spaces are clean, compliant, and ready for activities and events.
  • Supporting the delivery of community projects, events, and services that improve residents' quality of life.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues and volunteers to create positive customer experiences and successful community outcomes.
  • Working flexibly across community facilities within your region to support operational needs.

What you’ll need

  • Experience in a customer-facing, community-based or administrative role, with a passion for delivering excellent customer service.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a varied workload, prioritise effectively, and maintain accurate records and processes.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, enabling you to work confidently with residents, colleagues, community groups, and external partners.
  • Good IT skills and attention to detail, including experience using Microsoft Office, maintaining data accurately, and working in line with confidentiality, data protection, equality, diversity and inclusion principles.
  • A proactive, positive and flexible approach, with strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to work evenings, weekends and on a rota basis across multiple South London locations when required.
