The Post
As a key member of Brent Council’s senior finance leadership team, this role serves as the principal financial adviser to the Section 151 Officer, Deputy S151 Officer, Elected Members, and the Corporate Director for Service Reform &amp; Strategy. The position plays a pivotal role in shaping and delivering the department’s financial strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities and fiscal sustainability.&nbsp; The role involves building and maintaining strong partnerships with key stakeholders, including health sector partners, and leveraging financial insights to support strategic decision-making and policy development.
The Person
Leading a team of Finance Business Partners (2 Senior Finance Analysts, 2 Finance Analysts and graduate trainee), the postholder oversees financial support across a diverse portfolio, including Adult Social Care, Strategic Commissioning and Capacity Building, Public Health, Leisure &amp; Parks, Integrated Care Partnerships, and Communications, Insight &amp; Innovation. The team provides expert financial advice, robust challenge, and strategic support to service directors—enabling effective budget management, financial modelling of policy and corporate initiatives, and the delivery of savings and service efficiencies in line with the Council’s values and objectives. We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a Business Rates Inspector to join our busy Revenues team on an initial 18-month fixed term contract.
Woking Borough Council offer hybrid working for this role, the successful candidate would be expected to spend some time in the office. A large part of the role involves external site inspections, you will require a vehicle and driving licence.
Training will be provided to the successful candidate. Previous experience is not essential, the salary will be reflective of experience in a similar role.
The main duties of the role include:

<li>Carry out external site visits to non-domestic properties and new buildings under construction</li>
<li>Issue Business Rates completion notices for new build properties</li>
<li>Refer non-domestic property alterations to the Valuation Office Agency</li>
<li>Processing alterations to the local rating list.</li>
<li>Liaise with external bodies such as the Valuation Office Agency, as required.</li>
<li>Communicate effectively with internal services, including Property Services and Finance.</li>
<li>Set up new Business Rates accounts</li>
<li>Award relief Business Rates relief in line with legislation and guidance</li>
<li>Ensure Business Rates liability is correct on accounts before commencing recovery</li>
<li>Support the Revenues, Recovery and Customer Service teams with Business Rates queries.</li>
<li>Deal promptly and courteously with all forms of communication with the public, in accordance with the Council’s Customer Care Code and other agreed guidelines.</li>
<li>Any other duties at a level appropriate to the post, as requested by the Revenues Manager.</li>
</ul>
The successful candidate should meet the above criteria whilst being flexible and adaptable.

Internal Audit &amp; Counter Fraud Manager
About the Role:
In this role, you’ll lead, shape and manage Wirral Council’s Internal Audit and Counter Fraud team, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality annual audit plan and proactive fraud prevention strategy. You’ll drive improvements in internal controls, champion good governance, and provide assurance that supports the Council’s financial sustainability and strategic objectives.
We are looking to appoint a dynamic and experienced Internal Audit and Counter Fraud Manager to join our Risk and Compliance Team.
You will be responsible for providing independent, objective assurance and advice across the Council and will ensure we have a strong, embedded culture of integrity, accountability and compliance.
You will deliver a risk-based audit plan, lead complex investigations, and develop corporate-wide fraud prevention strategies.
You will develop and lead a high-performing team, deputising for the Head of Risk and Compliance and influencing change at a senior level.
