You will lead on data governance activities across the organisation ensuring and leading compliance with policies, standards and provide support to internal user groups. Identify opportunities to support strategic objectives and corporate decision making. This will lead to the effective use of our environmental data and data services both across the Met Office and in delivering our commitments to government, industry and the public. </p><p><strong>Your key duties</strong>:</p><ul><li>Working with the Head of Data Governance and key stakeholders including senior leadership teams, you will establish and maintain a Data Governance Framework of principles, policies and guidance that underpin our data governance and corporate decision making and communicate and reinforce their adoption to enable us to deliver the many data-related objectives of our strategic actions. </li><li>Ability to engage with business units and end users to promote data governance principles, build stakeholder buy-in, and communicate the value of trusted data as a driver for operational efficiency and strategic decision-making.</li><li>Develop and support the adoption of the Data Governance Framework through formal and informal engagement across capabilities within the organisation.</li><li>Responding to business challenges and identifying opportunities, you will maintain alignment to enterprise design frameworks and compliance with external policies and best practice.</li><li>You will introduce and manage measures to monitor and raise Met Office maturity in environmental data governance practices and, through research, collaboration and user feedback, you will identify organisational challenges and blockers, making improvements to support staff, to embed sustainable ways of working and to address business needs.</li><li>Lead an inclusive and accountable approach to environmental data governance and management to build a culture of openness and transparency across the Met Office, so that insights, intelligence, experience and lessons learned inform decisions, direct work priorities and enable staff to collaborate on efficient and consistent approach to environmental data management.</li><li>Work with industry leaders and external stakeholders to exchange governance knowledge and learning.</li><li>Lead data governance assurance reviews to ensure compliance, data quality, and risk mitigation. The current Met Office Data Assimilation (DA) system is not expected to be efficient across the range of possible alternative HPC solutions likely to be available on the 2025 timescale. The new software is being developed within the Joint Effort for Data assimilation Integration (JEDI) framework from the Joint Centre for Satellite Data Assimilation (JCSDA).</p><p>The Met Office provides an opportunity for talented scientists to apply their skills to real-world problems, with impacts upon services that reach all our lives. Within the organisation, you will work in the team working on the Assimilation of Earth observations, part of the Satellite and Surface Assimilation (SSA) section of Weather Science. Data assimilation is the process of combining observational data with output from a numerical model to produce a statistically optimal estimate of the initial conditions for weather prediction. The Met Office is at the forefront of DA applications in operational Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) and it is an exciting time to be working in this area. Perhaps the greatest challenge for modern DA is the need to consider how these complex DA algorithms will be run efficiently on the potentially radically different supercomputer architectures needed to maintain progress over the next decade.</p><p>As part of our approach to growing expertise in DA and JEDI, the successful applicants will also have exciting secondment opportunities to spend time working in Boulder, Colorado, at the JCSDA.</p><p>We are seeking talented and creative individuals to join our surface-based and upper-air observation team to contribute to the research and development on the assimilation of a wide range of weather observations (e.g. surface automated weather stations, upper-air instruments like radiosondes, and surface-based remotely sensed data such as weather radar) for initialising operational weather forecast models on the next generation of supercomputers. The current Met Office Data Assimilation (DA) system is not expected to be efficient across the range of possible alternative HPC solutions likely to be available on the 2025 timescale. The new software is being developed within the Joint Effort for Data assimilation Integration (JEDI) framework from the Joint Centre for Satellite Data Assimilation (JCSDA).</p><p>The Met Office provides an opportunity for talented scientists to apply their skills to real-world problems, with impacts upon services that reach all our lives. Within the organisation, you will work in the team working on the Assimilation of Earth observations, part of the Satellite and Surface Assimilation (SSA) section of Weather Science. Data assimilation is the process of combining observational data with output from a numerical model to produce a statistically optimal estimate of the initial conditions for weather prediction. The Met Office is at the forefront of DA applications in operational Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) and it is an exciting time to be working in this area. <h4>Job summary</h4>Please refer to Job Description<h4>Job description</h4><p><strong>Overview of the job</strong></p><p>This is a management job which provides leadership and facilitates/enables religious and pastoral care to prisoners and staff within an establishment.</p><p><strong>Summary</strong></p><p>This is a non-operational job with line management responsibilities for leading and managing a multi-faith and belief chaplaincy team. Although a managerial role rather than being faith or belief specific, post holders must be endorsed by the respective HMPPS Faith and Belief Adviser.</p><p>The job holder will provide for the religious and pastoral care of prisoners and staff in their own faith or belief tradition, and appropriate pastoral care for all irrespective of faith/belief tradition or of none.</p><p>The job holder will work with colleagues to ensure the delivery of PSI 05/2016 Faith and Pastoral Care for Prisoners or its successor policy framework document and also the broader work of chaplaincy in delivering faith and non-faith based courses. The job holder will contribute to the process by which the Governor and Head of Chaplaincy/Profession at headquarters are assured that these policies are being delivered.</p><p>Responsible for leading on developing relationships with various support and volunteer groups and, where appropriate, act as Official Prison Visitor Liaison Officer.</p><p>Takes responsibility for one’s own spiritual health and development, allowing time for private prayer/reflection, study and retreat.</p><p><strong>Responsibilities, Activities and Duties</strong></p><p>The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties:</p><p><strong>Team and Personal Management</strong></p><p>• Responsible for leading and managing a multi-faith and belief chaplaincy team, ensuring chaplains are available and accessible to prisoners, the effective administration of chaplaincy, including prisoner lists for events, records updated etc and promotes HMPPS policy in all activities and behaviours; e.g. diversity, decency, safety and reducing re-offending agendas.</p><p>• Responsible for ensuring prisoners’ complaints (including those involving litigation claims) relevant to the Chaplaincy team, have been dealt with in accordance with policy. Carries out investigations and administration in relation to incidents of potential discrimination and reports on findings.</p><p>• Ensure chaplains and volunteers are receiving necessary training, development opportunities, mentoring and personal support including after incidents as well as for volunteers and nurturing them in their contribution.</p><p>• Accountable for the performance of the Chaplaincy team and the staff within it. Manages the achievement of qualitative and quantitative standards within the function, verifying and signing off documentation asappropriate. Analyse and act upon data relevant to Chaplaincy. Attends relevant boards/meetings and actively contribute either as chair or team member, produces relevant reports as required and ensures all correspondence is replied to within agreed timescales.</p><p><strong>Pastoral Care &amp; Worship/Meditation</strong></p><p>• Provide pastoral care and seek to ensure spiritual welfare of prisoners and all staff, including acquiring and distributing appropriate faith/belief literature, supplies and materials. With responsibility for arranging and leading worship/meditation for own faith/belief community, plan, organise hospital visits, weddings, funerals, memorial services, where appropriate. Assist with offenders on release into the community, those serving community sentences or other HMPPS funded community initiatives by agreement.</p><p>• Provide expert faith/belief advice within establishment and be responsible for supporting it in ensuring faith/belief groups observe their religious holy days and festivals and for planning and leading workshops and prayer/faith specific meetings.</p><p>• Responsible for ensuring and delivering awareness programmes for prisoners, including bereavement programmes and lifer programmes, as applicable, and local faith/belief awareness training for staff.</p><p><strong>Stakeholder Relationships &amp; Management</strong></p><p>• Work closely with Safer Custody to ensure issues such as deaths in custody procedures, Assessment Care in Custody Teamwork (ACCT) and Violence Reduction are delivered in-line with HMPPS standards. Ensuring, and contributing to, supporting prisoners in dealing with bereavement by liaising with families/prisoners and other third parties; e.g. hospitals, Coroners’ offices.</p><p>• Responsible for ensuring the involvement of the Chaplaincy team in resettlement issues as appropriate and engage and build contacts with own faith/belief community towards aiding the resettlement of prisoners and for the contact strategy with outside faith/belief-based agencies to help with the resettlement of prisoners.</p><p>Resource &amp; Financial Management</p><p>• Contribute to the establishment’s overall achievement of standards and be accountable for the performance and delivery of targets relating to the budget and People Plan. Responsible for leading the development of local policy, procedures and practice and the implementation of national policy for chaplaincy services. Ensures that current Chaplaincy practice is in line with policy (both national and local). Contributes to the development and delivery of the medium-to-long term strategic and business plan for the establishment, with overall responsibility for implementation within their function. Ensure all risk assessments are undertaken and staff are made aware of their personal responsibility towards health and safety compliance.</p><p>• Responsible for ensuring relevant actions arising from Standard Audit, Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Prisons (HMIP) Action Plans, Quality, Assurance and Development (QuAD) reports, Managing Quality of Prison Life (MQPL) surveys including local self-audit action plans and Resettlement strategies are delivered.</p><p>The duties/responsibilities listed above describe the post as it is at present and is not intended to be exhaustive. <h4>Job summary</h4><p>The SIA is the organisation responsible for the regulation of private security. It is an independent, arm’s length body (ALB) of the Home Office, reporting to the Home Secretary, under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. The SIA’s purpose Is protecting the public through effective regulation of the private security industry and working with partners to raise standards across the sector. Its regulatory remit covers the whole of the United Kingdom. </p><p>The SIA has two main duties: the compulsory licensing of individuals undertaking designated activities within the private security industry and the management of a voluntary Approved Contractor Scheme, which measures private security suppliers against independently assessed criteria. </p><p>SIA licensing covers security operatives who are in guarding, door supervision, close protection, cash and valuables in transit, and public space surveillance using CCTV, vehicle immobilisation (in Northern Ireland) and key holding. Licensing ensures that private security operatives are fit and proper persons who are properly trained and qualified to do their job. </p><h4>Job description</h4><p>As Deputy Director Compliance and Inspections – Private Security, you will be responsible for the SIA’s private security compliance and inspections capability, providing strategic leadership over the regulatory work and teams delivering this statutory function.
