The Role&nbsp;

SEND Tribunal Officer
About the Role
The SEND Tribunal Officer is responsible for case management of mediation and SEND appeal related cases to ensure that the council discharges its responsibilities effectively in relation to statutory appeals to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDIST).
The role will facilitate building strategic links with schools, education providers and other partner agencies to deliver positive outcomes for children and young people, and to limit the local authority’s exposure to risk of appeals.
About the Candidate
Successful candidates will have in depth knowledge and understanding of current SEN legislation and reform, statutory procedures and processes governing the provision of services for children with special educational needs, with knowledge and experience of legal or tribunal processes. We are seeking two dynamic and experienced Lawyers to join the Council’s Legal Services team as Senior Lawyers. The Roles
For both senior roles you will be required to ensure that the implications of local government law are understood and complied with, including the statutory requirement within the Council.&nbsp; You will draft and advise on reports for Cabinet, Council Committees and other meetings as required ensuring that all procedural and standing order requirements are complied with.
You will already be an experienced lawyer and depending on your knowledge and experience you&nbsp; will act as the lead advisor on a broad range of planning or contracts and procurement matters.&nbsp; You will be responsible for our own caseloads, which will cover a wide range of diverse, complex and interesting matters.&nbsp; You will have experience of providing advice on complex legal matters to Members, Officers and other stakeholders.

About the Role An&nbsp;exciting opportunity has arisen in the Council’s&nbsp;legal department for a Property Lawyer&nbsp;to join our team. We are looking for a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives (or equivalent relevant qualification), ideally from within the public sector.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; This is a varied role, and the successful candidate will be expected to juggle a busy and challenging caseload.&nbsp;They will be highly organised, proactive, flexible, able to work under pressure, manage competing deadlines and work as part of a team&nbsp;and on their own initiative. You will be responsible for commercial and residential property law related legal advice, conducting litigation and assisting the Senior Lawyer in ensuring that the Council receives cost-effective high-quality advice and representation. Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council are seeking an experienced Contracts and Procurement Lawyer to join our legal services team.
You will be a qualified solicitor or barrister (or equivalent) with recent experience of working in the areas of contracts and procurement in a local government context.
Applicants will require excellent communications skills and be confident in providing practical legal advice and assistance on a wide range of contract and procurement matters, ensuring compliance with public procurement regulations.
You should be proficient in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating public contracts and have excellent understanding of the public procurement framework and local government law and a proven ability to manage a varied workload with minimal supervision
Reporting to the Head of Legal and Democratic Services, the successful candidate will have a broad portfolio of work including high value contract tenders and providing advice to all of the authority’s services.
