We are seeking an Independent SEND Chair to spear head our continued journey of progress. The Chair will be responsible for the SEND Governance Board, The Reform Board, Inspection Preparation Board and liaison meetings with Academy Chief Executives.

This is a unique opportunity to support and influence the multi-agency partners and define the impact and outcomes that the Local Authority continues to aspire to.

About the Role

The role of the Independent Chair provides a unique and influential opportunity to:

Provide independent leadership and strategic direction, setting clear priorities to support high‑quality practice of the Local Authority and across partner agencies.

Promote and strengthen multi‑agency working, ensuring that organisations work together effectively to identify, prevent, and respond to the needs of children and their families

Champion best practice and continuous learning, keeping the Board aligned with national policy developments, statutory duties - the SEND code of practice and legislation in particular the new Reforms

Offer constructive support and challenge to help partners reflect, improve, and innovate in the interests of children and their families

Who We are Looking For

We are seeking an individual who is passionate ensuring children are at the centre and improving their educational outcomes.

The ability to work with parents and partners on our Boards and ensure their voices are heard and contribute appropriately to the wider agenda.

A demonstrably significant knowledge of improvement, inspection framework and the new reforms including the framework of Children Social Care Reforms of Family First.

Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior leaders, frontline practitioners, voluntary sector partners, and the wider community.

The ability to build strong and trusting relationships, fostering collaboration and shared responsibility within the education landscape .

Significant senior‑level operational and strategic experience in the relevant field, including CSC, the health economy and the Integrated Care Board (ICB) and understanding the function and collaboration of Academies within the Local Authority,

A commitment to person‑centred, strengths‑based practice and an ability to promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and learning.

Terms of Appointment

Length of appointment: 6 months to be reviewed at 3 months

Commitment: 45 days within a 6 month period

In person meetings with partners with some flexibility of appropriate Hybrid working

Rate: £750 per day.
