We are seeking a Qualified Social Worker to join the 16+ Service to primarily support unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC) who are children in care to the Local Authority.Applicants will need to have good knowledge and experience of working with, assessing and supporting UASC who are therefore children in care, with full understanding of the Age Assessment, Home Office, Asylum and Children in Care processes and legislations. Working as a Senior Social Worker for
 Reading Borough Council you will be part of a friendly and

About the
 Role:
The Mental Health Social Care Team work
 with adults with a diagnosis of functional mental
 disorder. 
 
We use the Conversation Counts model and the team offer the full
 range of social care interventions for the client group, from
 advice and signposting, adult safeguarding, discharges from the
 psychiatric hospital, to initial assessments under the Care Act
 and commissioning of services to meet eligible needs or mental
 health aftercare needs under S117 Mental Health Act 1989 and
 onward reviews. 
 
Good knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act is pivotal to the role
 and experience of court work and Community DOLS is required. We
 welcome applications for AMHPs. The team takes a strengths based
 approach and aims to help individuals tap into support available
 in their local network where possible with an aim of preventing
 needs arising and promoting independence in their own
 home. 
 
We benefit from a mental health reablement service which supports
 our clients to meet their goals and retain independence and
 recover from periods of ill health. 
 
Have a particular focus on reviewing and
 S117 aftercare, you will support the team manager with quality
 assurance of S117 applications across the council and the process
 and we are particularly looking for someone highly organised and
 efficient.
 
You will hold a small varied caseload as well as providing
 supervision, guidance and oversight to a group of social care
 practitioners, operating as the duty manager for the team on a
 rota basis and deputising for the Team Manager as necessary.&nbsp; You
 will contribute to the team performance and positive outcomes for
 our residents. 
 
You will work within the legal framework provided by the statute,
 guidance, policies and procedures. 
 
You will need to have:
<ul>
<li>A degree or equivalent in Social
 Work</li>
<li>Registration with Social Work
 England</li>
<li>Understanding of the Care Act 2014 and
 relevant legislation that guides Adult Social Care.</li>
<li>Understanding and experience in working
 with the MHA 1983 (as amended 2007) and the MCA 2005)</li>
<li>Significant understanding and experience
 in working with adults with serious mental illness.</li>
<li>Good teamwork and networking skills</li>
<li>A proven ability to focus on good
 outcomes for people</li>

Senior Social Worker/Social Worker Working Age Team
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join and be part of the Working Age, Adult Social Work Team on a permanent basis. We welcome applications from experienced Social Workers.
The Working Age Social Work Team is responsible for adults from the age of 18 to 67 with a Learning Disability, Physical Disability, or a Diagnosis of a Severe and Enduring Mental Health Need. The team is also responsible for the statutory provisions under the Mental Health Act 1983 and runs the Council’s AMHP rota. 
The Social Work team is extremely busy, and the work undertaken is complex and challenging. As a Social Worker on the team, you will be expected to carry a complex caseload made up of all the different client groups the team works with, you will also be undertaking investigations under Safeguarding, Assessments including those under the Care Act, Care Planning and Reviewing. 
The team also undertakes a huge amount of legal work and has an excellent working relationship with the Council’s Legal Team. The successful candidate will have the BIA qualification or be willing to undertake this. The team works very closely with colleagues in Merseycare, we have a social work presence in all the Merseycare in-patient wards which are now across the whole footprint of the Merseycare region. We are also proud to have implemented a new Homelessness Social Work post, which works with the homelessness population in St Helens, this post is attached to the Social Work team however operates within the outreach service, YMCA, and Salvation Army. 
The successful candidate will be a qualified AMHP or willing to undertake AMHP training. You will have the opportunity to develop your social work skills and knowledge by supporting the AMHPs when undertaking Mental Health Act Assessments in the community and hospital settings. The AMHP rota is managed by our AMHP Lead and runs until 8pm Monday to Friday so there may be times when you are asked to work past your normal working hours. 
In return you will be provided with management support from the team manager, AMHP Lead and 2 Advanced Practitioners and you will be part of a very supportive team, receive monthly supervision, informal supervision, appraisals, one to one support and monthly team meetings and have access to on-going training and development.
