You will also assist in funding bid submissions, stakeholder engagement and the development and implementation of integrated transport strategies.Key responsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be required to co-ordinate the borough's School Travel Plan programme, delivering an increase in TfL Travel for Life accredited schools, and assisting in delivery of a range of key projects including the award winning Zero Emission Network (ZEN) and workplace travel plans alongside delivery of Local Implementation Plan (LIP) projects including cycle training, inclusive cycling, community cycle hubs, cycle parking and other sustainable travel projects in line with the Tower Hamlets Transport Strategy. You'll help shape transport policies and initiatives that reduce car dependency, encourage walking, cycling and public transport use, and make our communities more climate resilient. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Sustainable Travel and Road Safety Officer, to join our Sustainable Travel and Road Safety Team.The Team works to enable active and sustainable travel and make roads safer through infrastructure and behaviour change projects. Our workstreams include: active travel schemes; behaviour change; road safety; development management; electric vehicle infrastructure; feasibility work; and policy development.The creation of an active travel network is strategic. We work closely with a range of teams within North Somerset to help ensure active and sustainable transport are considered as part of day-to-day activities for the council.NSC receives substantial developer funding from new developments, to mitigate their proposals. These pay for the monitoring of Travel Plans, travel information packs and sustainable travel incentives for new residents. The role is focused on using this funding to ensure that new developments are as sustainable as possible, and that new residents and employees are fully aware of the sustainable travel options open to them on their doorstep. You'll help shape transport policies and initiatives that reduce car dependency, encourage walking, cycling and public transport use, and make our communities more climate resilient.We are seeking a dedicated and ideally experienced Sustainable Travel and Road Safety Officer to join our team, primarily focused on the scheme pipeline of active and sustainable transport projects for our Integrated Transport Block programme. The Sustainable Travel &amp; Road Safety Team are responsible for feasibility, engagement and works to enable active and sustainable travel and make roads safer and accessible through infrastructure and behaviour change projects. Our workstreams include: active travel schemes; behaviour change and road safety; development management mitigation comments; electric vehicle infrastructure; feasibility work; and policy development.The creation of our active travel network is strategic. The adopted <a href="https://chrome-extension/efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/https:/n-somerset.gov.uk/sites/default/files/2023-03/31418 ATAP - Active Travel Network action plan ACC.pdf" target="_blank">Active Travel Action Plans (ATAPS)</a> have shaped what future improvements may come forward working with our local communities, as well as other strategic documents such as our EV Strategy, and joint Local Cycling &amp; Walking Infrastructure Plan. Funding streams made available from DfT and Active Travel England help to facilitate our future network of walking, wheeling, and cycling routes and develop schemes for implementation, and provide behaviour change activities to promote these. The team ensures that local routes are created, as part of new developments and that they tie into the existing network. The Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OZEV) provide further funding to North Somerset to use for the creation of charging hubs and infrastructure within our network and we run initiatives to increase electric vehicle uptake. The team provides road safety education for children, Bikeability cycle training within schools as well as other education, training and publicity campaigns.We work actively with the Climate Emergency team to change behaviour positively to ensure we address carbon emissions through transport, which is the biggest contributary sector within North Somerset. Our School Crossing Patrol Operatives have an essential role in keeping local communities and pedestrians safe. Not only that, but your role is fundamental to ensuring the safety of children and other pedestrians when crossing in designated positions 
Experience and formal qualifications are not required but you will have a good rapport with children and adults, alongside an awareness of road safety. We are interested to hear from individuals from different backgrounds and at all career stages. If you've got the people skills to deal with children, drivers, parents and teachers, we'll train you to confidently manage the traffic! All of our Operatives receive full training in the role.
