Job Description

Get your career in transport projects off to a great start with our exceptional apprenticeship scheme.

Working Style:

Based in the borough three days a week, with up to two days working from home, in this role, you’ll be joining a dedicated team of five officers aiming to deliver a challenging work programme each year. From planning new pedestrian crossings and improvements to Cycleways to supporting our schools in promoting sustainable travel, your workload will be varied and interesting.

This is a three-year programme.

What you’ll be doing:

You will have the opportunity to secure your project management qualification and gain an in-depth knowledge of how we are improving road safety and making our streets safer and greener. Providing project, policy and change management support to our inclusive and friendly team, you will get involved in programmes of work covering key areas such as traffic congestion, road collisions, school parking challenges and new pedestrian crossings. Every day will therefore present you with the chance to form a solid foundation of knowledge, on which you can build a fascinating career.

With around 20 per cent of your time spent on the learning side of this apprenticeship (in which you will attend workshops and webinars, and conduct online activities), you can expect to underpin your studies with hands-on projects. Nurturing your skills in a wide variety of small to medium-sized projects, you will take responsibility for researching, managing and monitoring the progress of workstreams. Helping the team come up with innovative solutions to complex challenges, you will have the opportunity to shadow and be coached by colleagues, getting involved in tasks such as reporting on public consultations, monitoring expenditure in new schemes, analysing survey data, drawing up simple plans or drafting street notices about the improvements we’re proposing.

By the end of this interesting apprenticeship scheme, you will have secured your Level 4 Associate Project Manager apprenticeship qualification, and the IPMA Level D qualification or APM Project Management Qualification.

For further details, please review the Job Description and Person Specification.

What you’ll bring:

To make the most of this great opportunity, you will be ready to hit the ground running. Y will be happy to work flexibly across a variety of initiatives, be comfortable extracting and analysing data, and l have some knowledge of budgeting, financial management and cost control. With GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths and good IT skills (including the ability to use Microsoft Office and data analysis software), you will be a self-starter who is keen to learn. With the ability to meet deadlines and stay calm under pressure, you will be a team player who has a sharp eye for detail. Strong verbal and written communication skills are also important, and you will share our determination to create a greener, safer and fairer transport network in one of London’s most iconic boroughs.

We look forward to helping you get your career off to a great start in our ambitious and high-performing team.
