Social Worker Family Help (Hackney Central) – Children and Families Service

Social Work
£44,937 - £51,228 per year

Hackney Children and Families Service are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for qualified social workers to join their workforce with vacancies across the new Family Help Service and ASYE team. Currently seeking both experienced social workers, as well as newly qualified social workers, looking to enter into their assessed and support year in employment (ASYE). Hackney are proud to offer a high standard of support and a vast range of opportunities to learn and develop across the first year of employment and beyond.

ASYE candidates will be appointed at PO1, experienced Social Workers will be appointed from PO2.

Retention bonus for social workers (post ASYE) in the Family Help Service – £1500 every 6 months.

We are currently looking for enthusiastic, passionate and highly skilled social workers and newly qualified social workers, who are committed to learning and developing their practice and are dedicated to improving outcomes for the lives of children and families in Hackney. The successful candidates will join one of the new Family Help Teams that are based across 4 family hubs spread across the borough and will be working with families from the point of assessment and early help, through to child protection and court proceedings. Newly qualified social workers may have an opportunity to join a team of other newly qualified social workers, led by a highly experienced and skilled team manager, who will support them to navigate the challenges and opportunities of their first year in practice. We are looking for practitioners who already have some experience of working with children and families at a statutory level and who are able to demonstrate strong social work values and skills that align with Hackney’s STAR model of practice.

Join us in Hackney for your next career move and start afresh in 2026. Our priority is to provide the highest quality support and care for Hackney’s children and families, providing the right support at the right time. We are rated Good by Ofsted and are continually seeking to improve our services and set this out in our Action Plan.

  • Following on from our Anti Racist Summit in October 2023 we remain committed to dismantling systemic racism, discrimination, injustice and making anti-racism a foundation of our practice.
  • We pride ourselves on offering a high quality level of personal and case supervision, with a strong clinical offer and an approachable/visible management presence.
  • We are an innovative borough where we collaborate to support change for the children and families we work for and for each other.

Candidates must:

We are also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud. In order to achieve this, we are seeking individuals who embody our “PROUD” values: Purpose and Respect, where we foster belonging through active inclusion, kindness, and open dialogue; Ownership, where we champion proactive collaboration and accountability for our shared success; and Unity and Diversity, where we work as one Council to break down silos and champion anti-racist behavior.

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation. We also recognise that people can be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class. We also welcome those interested in flexible working. We particularly welcome applications from disabled people, as this group is currently under represented in our workforce.

The Council has a dedicated employment support service (Hackney Works), which offers Hackney residents guidance in relation to applying for jobs. If you are thinking about applying for a job, please contact the Hackney Works team to find out what support is available: hackneyworks@hackney.gov.uk
