About Haringey

Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.

Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

About the role

We are seeking an ambitious, proactive and highly organised Business Manager to join the Chief Executive’s Office, supporting the Corporate Director of Culture, Strategy and Communities.

This is a unique role at the heart of the organisation, acting as the Corporate Director’s trusted support and helping them operate effectively across a large and complex portfolio. Working closely with them and their Executive Assistant, you will anticipate issues, manage competing priorities, provide strategic support and ensure they are fully prepared to lead, make decisions and respond to emerging challenges.

You will often act on the Corporate Director’s behalf, coordinating activity across the directorate, driving actions forward and ensuring priorities continue to progress. Success in this role comes from understanding the Corporate Director’s priorities, spotting what needs attention before being asked, and bringing together the right people and information to make things happen.

You will coordinate senior leadership meetings, prepare high-quality briefings, reports and presentations, oversee forward planning, and build effective relationships with senior colleagues, elected members and external partners. Business Managers also lead strategic projects, support budget planning and performance processes, and help navigate complex organisational issues, playing a pivotal role in delivering the Council’s priorities for residents and communities.

About the team

The Chief Executive’s Office is at the heart of the organisation, supporting the Chief Executive and leadership team and enabling effective decision-making across the Council. Working alongside Corporate Directors, Executive Assistants, other Business Managers and corporate services, the team coordinates, prepares, and advises, helping teams navigate decision making and dealing with the unexpected. This collaborative environment offers exposure to a wide range of high-profile projects and provides an excellent opportunity to influence outcomes that make a real difference to local communities.

About you

You will be a great communicator with strong judgement, analytical thinking and organisational skills. Comfortable working in a fast-paced and politically sensitive environment, you will have experience supporting senior leaders, managing competing priorities and building effective relationships across a complex organisation.

You will be proactive and solution-focused, able to anticipate issues, spot what needs attention before being asked, and use your judgement to move things forward. You will be confident translating complex information into clear briefings, presentations and recommendations, and bringing together the right people to resolve challenges and deliver results.

Knowledge of local government, strategic planning and working with a wide range of stakeholders will help you thrive in this influential role.

Working for Haringey

At Haringey Council we are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included, and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce so welcome applications from all ethnicities and communities so that we continue to make a difference to our residents and community. Our benefits package includes a leave entitlement of 31 days + bank holidays, potential hybrid working opportunities, health and wellbeing support, a generous local government pension scheme and a range of discount schemes across leisure and culture that provide both financial and money-saving discounts.

Please note: we reserve the right to end this advert before the noted deadline if we receive sufficient applications. If you wish to apply for this role, please ensure that you do so as soon as possible.

Additionally, we are aware that automated emails may be diverted through to junk email folders.  Please continue to check these through the application process.  If you have any questions about the status of your application, please contact ResourcingHub@haringey.gov.uk
