Senior Finance Business Partner

House of Lords – Finance Department

BELONG HERE. TOGETHER, WE MAKE PARLIAMENT HAPPEN.

As a Senior Finance Business Partner in the Finance Department, you’ll play an important role in supporting the UK’s parliamentary democracy. Your work will help members of the House of Lords carry out their responsibilities effectively — contributing to something bigger than any one role.

You’ll be part of a collaborative community, working alongside colleagues from a wide range of professions. Together, we make Parliament happen.

You’ll be based on the Parliamentary Estate in Westminster — a unique working environment shaped by history and powered by the people who work here today.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll deliver strategic, insight-driven business partnering to senior stakeholders, including the Finance Director and Lords Management Board. This is a key role where you’ll provide expert financial advice, challenge decision-making, and help shape projects and programmes to ensure value for money.

You’ll build strong relationships across Parliament, lead on financial planning, forecasting, and reporting, and play a vital role in business case development and investment decisions aligned to strategic priorities. Alongside driving continuous improvement, you’ll also lead and develop a small team, fostering a high-performing, collaborative culture.

This is an exciting opportunity to influence decision-making while contributing to the effective stewardship of public funds.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who can bring their skills and experience to make a meaningful contribution.

You’ll have:

  • Qualifications: You must be a fully qualified accountant (CCAB or equivalent).

  • Relationship management and influencing - Proven ability to build and sustain strong, effective, credible relationships and networks at all levels, becoming a trusted advisor to stakeholders. Experience of working collaboratively with a wide range of internal and external partners, including auditors, and providing constructive challenge to support value for money and informed decision-making.

  • Analytical thinking and problem solving– Highly developed analytical skills, with experience of interpreting large volumes of complex data and translating this into key insights. Ability to challenge and support business outcomes, identify risks, issues, and opportunities, and develop a pragmatic approach to solving problems.

  • Communication and stakeholder engagement – Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information clearly and concisely to non-finance audiences. Confident in tailoring messages to different stakeholders and supporting informed decision-making through clear, impactful narrative.

  • Delivery, accuracy and resilience - Strong attention to detail combined with the ability to prioritise and deliver high-quality outputs to tight deadlines. Remains composed and focused in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy.

  • Leadership and people development - A proven track record of building capability and developing people, with experience of supporting, coaching and enabling colleagues to perform at their best. Contributes to a high-performing, collaborative finance function.

  • Finance expertise and technical capability – Strong experience operating as a finance business partner within a complex organisation, with well-developed accounting knowledge and the ability to apply this in a practical way with a focus on stakeholders. Advanced IT skills, including extensive use of financial systems and Microsoft Excel, to support robust analysis and reporting.

It would be even better if you have (or are willing to learn):

  • An understanding of the public sector financial framework as it applies in central government.
  • Experience of reporting platforms such as Power BI.

For full details, please see the job description.

What you can expect

The Senior Finance Business Partner is a strategic, insight-driven role supporting senior stakeholders across a complex organisation. You’ll bring strong technical finance expertise, using data and analysis to drive decision-making, while building trusted relationships and providing constructive challenge to deliver value for money.

You’ll be part of a community that values your wellbeing, supports your development, and recognises the contribution you make.

You’ll benefit from:

  • 30 days annual leave (rising to 35 after one year), plus public holidays
  • A generous Civil Service pension
  • Access to learning and development across a wide range of roles and professions
  • Support for your health and wellbeing
  • The opportunity to be at the heart of UK parliamentary democracy

We know flexibility matters. Wherever possible, we’ll support working patterns that work for you — including hybrid working, job share or adjusted hours. We’ll be open about what’s possible for this role.

If you’re looking for a role where you can belong, grow and make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.
