Job summary

The Senior Criminal Investigator, Unregistered Social Care will lead and manage a team of Criminal Investigators and Assistant Criminal Investigators, to conduct and complete criminal investigations into unregistered social care. They will support the National Director, Deputy Directors, and Regional Directors, and be responsible for developing and implementing Ofsted approach to conducting criminal investigations.

The successful candidate will be an experienced senior criminal investigator with a wide range of investigatory skills. We are looking for candidates who can draw on their knowledge and experience as senior criminal investigators to bring fresh ideas and valuable insights to the Unregistered Social Care team.

You will need to be flexible, confident and show initiative from the outset. You must also be able to quickly familiarise yourself with the legislation that underpins criminal investigations into unregistered social care services.

Selection process details

  • Stage one: We will assess all applications against the essential qualifications criteria. Candidates who meet these criteria will progress to the next stage.
  • Stage two: We will assess progressed applications against the essential ability criteria and the following essential experience criteria. Candidates who meet these criteria will progress to the next stage.

Supervising investigations: Significant, proven experience of supervising serious and complex investigations. This should include, but may not be limited to, examples of ensuring compliance with legislation and guidance, supervision of case progression and case files.

Leadership, mentoring and developing staff: Proven experience of successfully managing teams of criminal investigators, you will require experience of mentoring and developing staff. This should include, but may not be limited to, providing advice to investigators to effectively identify, prioritise and pursue all relevant lines of enquiry to deliver against operational objectives, and the impact of your own leadership on colleagues and investigations.

  • Stage three: We will assess progressed applications against the following essential experience criteria. Candidates who meet this criterion will progress to the next stage.

Effective decision making and risk management: You will be experienced in managing risk and have proven experience in operational decision making and managing resources.

  • Stage four: We may assess progressed applications against the desirable qualifications and experience criteria if the number of candidates who meet the benchmark exceed the number of interview slots available.
  • Stage five: We will invite the most suitable candidates to an assessment and interview.
